    Who owns Dunn Winery?

Randy Dunn, who embarked on his winemaking journey in 1975 at Caymus, established his own vineyard on Howell Mountain in 1979. At that time, this area was considered the remote outskirts of Napa's wine culture. History has validated his forward-thinking vision. Randy's legacy continues with his son Mike, who took over the winemaking duties in 1999.

Ripe and polished, with a friendly beam of warmed cassis and plum sauce flavors flanked by singed vanilla and apple wood. Reveals a tug of tobacco on the finish. Leans to toasty in the end, but is solidly built nevertheless. Drink now through 2034.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is a powerful, tannic wine. In some vintages, the Napa Valley bottling is quite accessible, but not here. Swaths of tannin wrap around a core of dark fruit, gravel, spice, dried flowers, lavender and charred earth are pushed forward, with firm, chocolaty tannins that wrap it all together. This brooding, potent Cabernet needs at least a few years to settle. The 2019 is a bruiser, that is for sure.

Dunn Vineyards, located in the picturesque Angwin area of Napa Valley, has a rich history dating back to 1978 when Randy and Lori Dunn purchased a 14-acre parcel of land with five acres of Cabernet vines. Randy, who was a full-time winemaker in Rutherford at the time, along with Lori and their young son Mike, lovingly tended to these vines during evenings and weekends. This marked the beginning of their winemaking journey. The following year, Randy agreed to farm and purchase fruit from Harry Frank's adjoining property, further expanding their venture. With their first harvest in 1979, they garnered nine tons of fruit from these two vineyards. Dunn Vineyards continued to grow as they acquired an additional three tons from the Beatty Ranch.
