Cade Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 2019 is a pinnacle of winemaking excellence, meticulously crafted by winemaker Danielle Cyrot. This offering from Cade Winery, a member of the esteemed PlumpJack family, encapsulates the rugged beauty and distinctive terroir of Howell Mountain. A blend that harmoniously combines 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot, and 3% Malbec, the Cade Estate Cabernet Sauvignon reveals the meticulous care and passion that goes into each bottle.
Upon pouring, the wine reveals a deep garnet-purple color, signaling the intensity and opulence that define Cade Howell Mountain wines. The nose is immediately enveloped in a complex bouquet of cola, blueberry, and red cherry, interwoven with cocoa nibs, baking spices, and dried cranberries, a testament to the unique character of Cade Cabernet Sauvignon. These aromas evolve into a palate that is both rich and nuanced, featuring layers of boysenberry, black cherry, and elderberry, elegantly accented by dark chocolate, clove, and licorice. The finish is a masterful display of bramble, amaretto, and dried blue/black fruits, showcasing the Cade Estate Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon’s remarkable complexity and depth.
The 2019 vintage benefits from a cooler year, which has infused the Cade Cab with a higher perceived acidity, introducing a delightful freshness that accentuates its red fruit flavors and aromas. This, coupled with its classic Howell Mountain structure, results in a wine that is bold yet balanced, with polished tannins that promise a future of evolving complexity.
Critical acclaim for this wine includes a 95-point rating from Jeb Dunnuck, who praises its stunning nose of black and blue fruits, iron, and subtle herbal nuances, declaring it a showcase of “pure 2019 goodness.” Vinous echoes this sentiment, awarding another 95 points and highlighting its opulent, inky dark fruit and plush texture. The Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator contribute 94 and 93 points, respectively, underscoring its vibrant fruit, fine-grained texture, and long, energetic finish.
With a limited production of 14,670 cases, the Cade Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 2019 is a coveted treasure for any cellar, poised to captivate and mature beautifully over the years.
The Cade Cabernet Howell Mountain’s full-bodied nature, combined with its fine-grained tannins and dry finish, makes it an ideal pairing for robust dishes. Whether it’s a grilled ribeye steak, braised short ribs, or a vegetarian mushroom risotto, this wine complements a variety of hearty meals, while its savory profile harmonizes perfectly with aged cheeses.
In summary, the Cade Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is not just a bottle of wine; it is a narrative of place, passion, and precision, brought to life by the talented Danielle Cyrot and the Cade Winery team. Its exceptional balance of lush fruit, acidity, and tannins ensures that it will continue to delight and evolve, making it a must-have addition to the collections of discerning oenophiles and a striking representation of the best that Cade Estate, and indeed Howell Mountain, has to offer.

This is packed with steeped plum and blackberry fruit paste notes mixed with tar, roasted apple wood and warm earth. A racy savory stripe is nicely buried through the finish, where a violet echo lingers. Best from 2024 through 2036. 14,670 cases made.
    MEL 94

It unfolds with secondary aromas of baking spices, dried cranberries, blackberry, tar, and a hint of warm earth. There’s a subtle presence of roasted apple wood and violet, contributing to its layered complexity.
    Palate:
Flavor Profile: A harmony of boysenberry, black cherry, elderberry, dark chocolate, and clove, accented with nuances of licorice, black olive tapenade, and herbal tones. The finish is marked by notes of bramble, amaretto, and dried blue/black fruits.
Body of the Wine: Full-bodied, mirroring its Howell Mountain heritage with opulent and concentrated fruit.
Tannin Structure: Fine-grained and polished, providing a framework that is both substantial and velvety.
Sweetness Levels: Dry, with the richness of fruit giving a perception of sweetness.
Acidity Levels: Higher perceived acidity, lending freshness and balance to the wine, especially crucial given its full-bodied nature and higher alcohol content.

For vegetarian options, consider rich dishes like mushroom risotto or eggplant parmesan, which can stand up to the wine’s intensity. The wine’s savory characteristics make it a great match for aged hard cheeses, like a mature cheddar or Gouda.

The 2019 Cade Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is blended of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 3% Malbec. Deep garnet-purple in color, it charges out of the glass with vibrant black cherry preserves, wild blueberries and mulberries scents, giving way to a core of cassis and star anise plus a waft of chocolate box. Full-bodied, concentrated and packed with bright black fruits, it has a fine-grained texture and long, energetic finish.

Winemaker Danielle Cyrot sourced grapes from CADE’s estate vineyards on Howell Mountain and the 13th Vineyard, Ink Grade Vineyard, and Cold Springs. An explosively rich nose of blackberry, graphite, and toasty oak spices with hints of dark chocolate. Full-bodied with decadent blackberry fruit, crushed stones, earth, and satiny tannins, with nice acid-driven fresheness that gives the wine lift and helps keep the 15.6% alcohol in balance.
    JD 95
    Jeb Dunnuck
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is even better, with a stunning nose of black and blue fruits as well as iron, black olive tapenade, and subtle herbal nuances. Pure 2019 goodness on the palate, it’s full-bodied, has ripe, polished tannins, a great mid-palate, and one heck of a finish. It’s not for those looking for old school Claret, but it brings beautiful richness and depth and will shine for at least 10-12 years as well.
    VIN 95
    Vinous
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a huge, opulent wine. A blast of inky dark fruit, chocolate, spice, plum and menthol gives the 2019 its racy, extroverted personality. The Estate is a typical wine from Cade that balances Howell Mountain intensity with plenty of Napa Valley lushness. The 2019 is sure to be a crowd pleaser.
