The 2019 Arietta Cabernet Sauvignon is a study in balance.  The year brought all of the ingredients for a successful vintage’”measured winter rainfall, mild spring and summer temperatures, and a predictable, deliberate harvest period.  When the conditions are set like this, it brings joy to the winemaking process, and this sense of joy comes through in the wines from 2019.
Signature aromas of black fruits, ripe cherry, graphite, and licorice are the first descriptors that come to mind. But right underneath are notes of black tea, subtle fresh sage, currant, and iron oxide. This young wine continues to open in the glass, which bodes well for its future in the cellar. On the palate, there is ample acidity, working to sharpen the focus and to excite the taste buds. Even given its dark, opaque nature, the wine has loads of bright aromatic energy that carries through all the way to the finish. Strongly Californian in nature, this is a vintage that also appeals to our Francophile sensibilities, with its freshness, aromatic brightness, and yes’”balance.

5 reviews for Arietta Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

    1. WE

Youthful and 100% varietal, this wine is refreshingly complex in cedar, earth and barnyard earthiness. Thick layers of currant, cassis and dark cherry mingle around seamless, supple tannin and toasted oak, finding cohesion and harmony through a lengthy finish.

    2. WA

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon soars out of the glass with notions of crème de cassis, plum preserves and baked blackberries, plus hints of chocolate box, camphor and cinnamon stick, with a waft of clove oil. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is laden with crunchy black fruits and bold freshness, featuring beautifully ripe, fine-grained tannins to support, finishing long and layered.

    3. JD

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is brilliant. Deep purple-hued, with incredible cassis and blueberry fruit as well as tobacco, graphite, damp earth, leather, and violets, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a round, layered, seamless texture, ultra-fine tannins, and a great, great finish. This tour de force is going to evolve gracefully for 30 years or more. It’s one of the finest wines I’ve tasted from this estate.

    4. JS

A pretty cabernet with aromas of blackberries, currants, fresh cherries, walnuts, cloves and tobacco leaves. Some pencil lead, too. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, finely knit tannins and fresh acidity. Balanced and structured. Walnut husk and cocoa come out on the long finish.

    5. VIN

Arietta’s 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is outstanding. It will require a number of years to be at its most expressive and for the bouquet to fully open, but all of that potential is there. Deep, layered and so well balanced, the 2019 is impressive right out of the gate. There is so much to look forward to. Inky dark fruit and a whole range of cooler-climate mineral/savory notes typical of Coombsville punctuate the huge, redolent finish.
