Addax Tench Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, masterfully crafted by Winemaker Russell Bevan, stands as a testament to the pure expression of the esteemed Tench Vineyard. Distinguished by its deep and lustrous complexion, this vintage captivates the senses with a profusion of meticulously handpicked blackberries, intertwined with supple glove leather and the invigorating essence of fresh forest petrichor. Complemented by hints of sweet vanilla bean and graphite, this hedonistic delight boasts an abundance of fruit, a rich, rounded texture, and a profound mid-palate depth that culminates in a flawless finish. With an aging process of 19 months in new French oak and an alcohol content of 14.9%, its intricate layers promise an evolution over decades, marking it as an extraordinary gem in the world of fine wines. Limited to a production of 266 cases, it embodies the essence of Tench Vineyard’s rich terroir and winemaking expertise.

Esteemed wine critic Jeb Dunnuck awards this vintage a remarkable 98 points, acknowledging its restrained yet dense character, featuring captivating notes of blueberries, scorched earth, and violets, seamlessly intertwined with hints of lead pencil and iodine. Dunnuck applauds its flawless balance, building tannins, and a lingering finish, projecting an exciting future for this exceptional wine. Meanwhile, the Wine Advocate’s rating of 95 points commends the wine’s compelling freshness, finely-grained palate, and a long, mineral-laced finish, brought to life by provocative notes of crame de cassis, blueberry pie, and hints of bay leaves, lavender, and charcuterie, all contributing to its enigmatic allure.

    1. WA

Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Tench Vineyard needs a little coaxing to reveal provocative notes of crème de cassis, blueberry pie and menthol plus hints of bay leaves, lavender and charcuterie with a waft of iron ore. The full-bodied, finely grained palate is beautifully poised with compelling freshness and a long, mineral-laced finish. 266 cases were made.

Lastly, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Tench Vineyard comes from a great vineyard that’s putting out some incredible wines today. Compared to the Napa Valley Red wine, it’s more restrained and backward yet has even more density and concentration. Notes of blueberries, scorched earth, violets, lead pencil, and iodine give way to a deep, full-bodied wine with flawless balance, building tannins, a stacked mid-palate, and a great, great finish. It’s mostly potential at this young stage, but it’s a thrilling bottle of wine. Hide bottles for 4-5 years and it should evolve for 30 years or more.
