Wine Description

Vincent Girardin Meursault Vielles Vignes Blanc 2020 is a captivating expression of the renowned Meursault terroir, crafted by the skilled winemaker Eric Germain. The vineyards, boasting vines of 50 years of age, are nestled in the commune of Meursault, comprising a harmonious blend of plots from the distinguished terroirs of Sous la Velle, Corbin, Dressolles, Clos du Cromin, and Vireuils. The unique geology contributes to the wine’s complexity, with two types of soil – ancient Callovian limestone rock and Argovian marly rock.

In the glass, this wine exhibits a lustrous golden color, hinting at the delights to come. The nose is a tantalizing bouquet of roasted almond and hazelnut, entwined with enchanting vegetal and floral aromas of hawthorn, elderberry, fern, linden, and verbena. Subtle mineral notes of flint add further depth and intrigue. Luscious scents of butter, honey, and citrus fruits also grace the senses, creating a multi-layered and alluring aromatic profile.

On the palate, Vincent Girardin Meursault Vielles Vignes Blanc 2020 delights with a rich and harmonious character. The distinct hazelnut flavor takes center stage, evoking a sense of indulgence and joy. The wine strikes a perfect balance between unctuousness and refreshing vivacity, showcasing the skillful vinification and aging processes employed. This is a wine of depth and structure, promising a long and rewarding finish.

The careful manual harvest and sorting, followed by a gentle pneumatic pressing, result in a slow and delicate extraction, preserving the wine’s inherent finesse and complexity. Aged in French oak barrels, with minimal new wood (10%), the wine undergoes both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations, conducted by native yeasts and bacteria. It then matures gracefully on fine lees for 15 months, sans stirring, ensuring a refined and elegant end product.

This wine is a blend of Sous la Velle, Corbin, Dressolles, Clos du Cromin, and Vireuils. Notes of smoky peach and hazelnut with a good tartness. Gets better with warmth. Good, but not exceptional.

  7. Mary Kamaka

Musique & Vin Pre-Concert Dégustation (Château de Meursault): Sweet, tart, complex. Balanced, long-lasting. Good now.

  8. Wayne Luck

First time trying Vincent Girardin’s wine and PVG’s style shines through. Reduction note lingers but gives way to fruity flavors. Oak, matchstick, flint, and popcorn hints upfront, followed by citrus, apple, stone fruits, flowers, butter, and vanilla. Creamy yet acidic with crisp minerality. Balanced ripeness, power, freshness, and finesse. 13% ABV with green bitterness and grapefruit finish.

Restrained, elegant Meursault. Stone fruit on the palate, very good fruit purity, plushness balanced by lingering mineral finish. Could be great value.
