Wine Description

Though the vast majority of our wines are single vineyard designates, Juvenile is actually composed of a variety of young vines that have been replanted in several of our old vine sites. We tag the younger vines then pick them separately and make a distinct wine. Juvenile vines range in age from about 6-25 years, and we pull from a selection of our best vineyards across California.

75 reviews for Turley Juvenile Zinfandel 2021

  1. Cassandra Meyers

Balanced with black cherry, blueberry and earthy notes of cedar, briars and brambles. Seamlessly integrated with 15.2% ABV.

  2. Richard Hernandez

Approachable young wine, fair Turley intro price. Rich fruit, spice, long finish.

  3. Jeanette Williams

Great Turley Juvi, balanced with excellent fruit taste.

  4. Carl Lewis

Best value on the market. Straight to the head. Rich, ripe, fruity. Unique, like Italian wines.

  5. Marge Sanders

    Approachable zin, perfect for BBQs.

  6. Dean Mcgalliard

Improved in 18 months, fruit backed off, smoother, well balanced. Lovely, case-worthy at this price. Meatballs for dinner tonight.

  7. Hazel Stockton

Great value with a balanced structure, restrained fruit and good acidity. Recommended for Turley first-timers.

  8. Jerry Martinez

Turley’s Juvenile cuvée is made from grapes sourced from young vines of 27 different vineyards. Despite the intense California wildfires of 2020, the wine has a ruby color and an intense nose of red fruits, lavender, and spices. The palate is enjoyable with discreet alcohol despite its 15.2%. The tannins could be better, but for the price, it’s worth it.

  9. Randi Kochel

A decent wine with acidity, pairs well with food. Best consumed within 3-5 years, has raspberry and rose notes but a light body.

  10. Dorothy Beard

Amador location tasting: Rough around edges, fruit more overt than Old Vines.

  11. Brandon Veach

Light body and medium on the dryness. Red fruit blended with black. Predominant strawberry with smooth tannins. Definitely not sweet, but not complex. It says drink me without reservations or second thoughts. Direct and enjoyable.

  12. Frederick Naples

Straightforward and delicious, this bottle has tighter acidity and tannins this vintage. Bottle age has done it well. Enjoyable with pizza and ready to drink now.

  13. Lucila Quinn

Tart cherry and blueberry notes with high acidity.

  14. Barbara Sheets

Flawless integration, blackberry, wild sage, and black pepper notes. 15.5% ABV. Needs 90 minutes to open up.

  15. Sherita Bell

Great value for money and drinking beautifully.

  16. Ethel Abadie

Field blend is decent, but single vineyard wines prevail.

  17. Celestine Morris

Sweet-tart fruit/berry notes with some spice. Opened up nicely with minty notes. Perfect with beef stroganoff.

  18. Viviana Leitheiser

Nice and drinkable with good fruit, but best enjoyed in the short term.

  19. Thomas Smith

Soft tannins, ripe fruit, and a pleasant amount of alcohol make for a thoughtful Zinfandel with just a touch more acid desired.

  20. Michelle Smith

Firmer/tighter than expected. This has a lot of structure and was wound a bit tight. First bottle opened from the vintage and think it can age longer than most Juveniles. Mixed red and black fruits, sappy, tannins in the background. Think this has a bit of upside ahead.

  21. Rick Lyons

Decent, but not on par with Turleys’ single vineyard wines.

  22. Michael Gonzales

Raspberry and cranberry notes lead the way, with nicely integrated oak and hints of bramble weaving in. 15.2%, but there’s an elegance here that belies the alcohol. Solid QPR.

  23. Jerry Paskett

  24. Pasquale Barnes

    “Agreed with previous review.”

Turley with age: Dark red, fruity, medium finish. Enjoyed it.

  28. Juanita Clark

Sorry, I cannot rewrite the review as there is no review provided. Please provide the review for me to rewrite.

  29. Gwendolyn Langley

Turley is a great cold weather wine with a lot of fruit and unexpected dryness on the finish. At $20 direct before tax and shipping, it’s a great value. Buy by the case!

  30. Denise King

Drink now, no need for further cellaring. Enjoy!

  31. Reed Calkins

Improved from last year’s bottle. Day 2 tasted great with integrated flavors of blue fruits, baking spice, and berry.

  32. Curtis Hitchcock

Turley is a young and vibrant wine with pronounced cranberry and white pepper flavors, making it perfect for Boxing Day. At only $20, it’s a great value.

  33. Judy Willis

Drinkable, yet unrecognizable as Zinfandel. Interesting with a long finish. Retains red fruit notes. Perfectly stored since winery purchase.

  34. Parker Brantley

Affordable with great quality, Turley’s best QPR. Decant for 2 hours before enjoying this classic Zin with nice fruit. Not a PnP wine.

  35. Danny Houston

    Balanced, round, full-bodied.

  36. Janice Baca

Improved taste, fresher nose, with more red fruit and spices. Alcohol has integrated, fruit is vibrant. Ready to drink, but can age longer.

  37. Philip Cho

    Great table wine.

  38. James Brockman

Mellowed 2013 with berry fruit and balanced alcohol.

  39. Lauren Albin

Excellent example of a Turley Juvi, great fruit, balance and taste.

  40. Douglas Montey

    “Great value wine.”

  41. Michele Wilson

Young and a bit flabby. Not the best vintage I have ever had. Disappointing. I have had better at half the price.

  42. Ted Young

Great value wine with big, juicy flavors of berries and wet stones. High ABV and perfect with red sauce pasta. Easy decision to buy.

  43. James Caruso

Great Zinfandel, smoking good despite age.

  44. Barbra Gershon

Great value zinfandel with balanced acidity and fruity profile. Perfect pairing for pot roast on a rainy day.

  45. Janet Adams

    Delightful.

  46. Jennifer Hickey

Great acidity, red fruit, and soft sweet tannins. Perfect with a cheese-steak.

  47. Mary Dulin

Delicious fruity Zinfandel with a balanced taste and interesting finish. Great value for money.

  48. Jesse Fleming

Delicious now, can age for years. Blackberry pie aroma with raspberry and dark chocolate notes. Decanted for two hours.

  49. James Luther

Sediment and age apparent, red fruit flavors fleeting with heat on finish. Good QPR.

  50. Susana Taylor

Great value for an entry-level bottle. Rich with red fruits, herbs, and a hint of oak. Balanced and not too heavy on the palate. Enjoy now or save for later.

  51. Sharon Leeder

Harmonious with red and black fruit aroma, dark cherries and spice on palate. Drink up, won’t get better.

  52. Shawn Gamboa

Go-to wine, always delicious. Perfect for last-minute gatherings.

  53. Eric Stevens

    Exhilarating experience.

  54. Annie Olivier

    Aged too long. Raisin taste.

  55. Paul Jones

Great value wine, big and bold.

  56. Josephine Kshywonis

    Excellent!

  57. Jeanette Lockett

Well-made with all five components in harmony. Turley style in a value package. Improving over the next few years.

  58. Clifton Bugarin

Impressive Turley Zin, with black and blue bramble fruits, white pepper, clove & dried herbs. Full-bodied, freshly acidic, lightly oaked, and medium sweet tannins. Drink now-2027.

  59. Jessica Clark

    Addictive.

  60. John Johnson

Exceptional vintage for Zinfandel with fresh and bright notes.

  61. Mechelle Bagby

Clean and floral nose with sweet cherry taste and high acidity. Rough finish but expected.

  62. Tiffany Wilkerson

The zin a mix of california “younger” zins but from what I recall young is a relative term for zinfandel and this was 6-25 years of aged plants but there are some Lodi and Alexander valley mixed in with Paso Robles and Napa but the overall ‘feel’ of the wine is darker fruit, very balanced clean cola, black berry and black cherry and not the hotter red fruits other young zins may have. Drinks fine now

  63. Lisa Powell

Deep ruby color, red fruit on nose and palate, soft tannins. Past peak but still pleasurable.

  64. Yvonne Anders

Fun, fruity, and approachable. Perfect with seared flank steak.

  65. Lorraine Horton

Improved from previous bottle. Developing well. Great value at $22.

  66. Jamie Bouley

Full-bodied, purple wine with rich fruity and oak notes. Mouth-filling and amazing value for money. Drink now or hold for a year. Perfect with pizza and cigars.

  67. Jill Hamilton

Dark berry fruit with tight mouthfeel and clipped finish. Needs 3 more years to soften.

  68. Charles Herrera

    Better. Pleasant.

  69. Michael Thao

    Jammy, fresh and acidic.

  70. Edna Guinane

Bottle tasted tart and bitter, will try again tomorrow.

  71. Tina Perry

Excellent. Cinnamon, plum, and pepper notes. Drink it now.

  72. William Franklin

Purple with subdued nose of red fruits, cocoa and pepper. Medium body, acidity with cherry, blood orange, cranberry and earth on palate. Tremendous finish. Unique but slightly underwhelming. Best over next several years.

  73. Carrie Goodson

Purple hue with M+ body and acidity. Cocoa, pepper, and berries on the nose. 1-dimensional red fruit palate with strawberry and oak. Long finish. Enjoyable but not worth $40. Can age a few more years.

  74. Rachel Riley

Fruit-forward with a hint of spice, perfect for young wine lovers.

  75. Ralph Fender

Dependable and delicious, this cuvee boasts ripe fruit, balanced spice, chocolate, and tobacco notes. At an affordable price, it pairs well with any food or stands alone as a great choice.

This dark-skinned red wine grape variety originally arrived in the United States from Europe during the early 19th century. Its initial success found strongholds in Napa and Sonoma counties, where it continues to flourish. Zinfandel's fascinating journey has uncovered intriguing connections.
