Wine Description

Block 7 is the gravelliest block in Vine Hill Ranch, with mature vines planted around twenty years ago, giving a wine of singular structure, depth and definition. Classic TOR Winemaking, this wine is an extraordinary display of Napa Valley Cabernet. Matured in a mix of Taransaud and Darnajou small French oak barrels for twenty months, then bottled without fining or filtration.

The 2019 Vine Hill Ranch Cabernet is again one of the best examples of terroir. Every time I try it it just simply tastes like Vine Hill and nothing else. This years shows then classic Vine Hill dried herbs and roasted red meats with sage, basil and fennel. This is slightly more black fruited on the palate than most 2019 Cabernets which were more red fruits. The amazing texture and balance continues to resonate through the long silky finish.

  1. WA

Complex aromas of plums, herbs and dried flowers. Currants, too. Full-bodied, yet so integrated and framed with ripe, firm tannins and long, long finish. Goes on for minutes. Real Napa cab! Drinkable now, but better after 2024.

  2. JD

Another release from Oakville, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Vine Hill Ranch Vineyard is almost all Cabernet (there’s 1% Petit Verdot) and comes from a single, rocky parcel in the vineyard. It has incredible purity in its cassis, spring flower, spicy oak, graphite, and subtle iron aromas and flavors. A singular wine in the lineup with its pure, focused, balanced, almost old school style, this medium to full-bodied, incredibly impressive 2019 has solid mid-palate density, ripe, velvety tannins, and a gorgeous finish. It’s the purity of fruit, balance, and quality of the tannins that set this beauty apart. Hide bottles for 3-5 years and enjoy over the following two decades.

  3. VIN

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Vine Hill Ranch Vineyard is glorious. Dark and expansive on the palate, the 2019 is just stunning right out of the gate. Plum, blackberry, sage, tobacco, leather, spice and incense all build over time. The Vine Hill Cabernet is not quite as sensual as the Pure Magic, but it more than makes up for that with its mysterious, beguiling personality. There is plenty of sheer allure, that much is obvious.
