This blend has a nicely integrated acidity and a long finish. While still true to Its Portuguese varietal roots, the 2017 blend also Incorporates some Red Mountain Syrah and Mourvedre. 1. WE

This is an intriguing blend of 32% Touriga Nacional, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Syrah, 13% Grenache, and 12% Tinta Cão, along with bits of Souzão and Cinsault. Aromas of cocoa, black raspberry, satsuma, plum and herb flavors are followed by beautifully balanced, restrained but still plentiful fruit flavors. It brings a lot of flat out enjoyment.

  2. JD

A blend you don’t often see from Washington State, the 2018 Stanley Groovy checks in as 32% Touriga Nacional, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Syrah, 13% Grenache, and the rest Tinta Cao, Souzao, and Cinsault. A dense purple hue is followed by a ripe, full-bodied, concentrated wine offering loads of blue fruits, cedary green herbs, sandalwood, and orange blossom-like aromas and flavors. As with all of the wines from this estate, the texture is incredible, it’s perfectly balanced, and it has ripe, polished tannins as well as a great, great finish. It’s going to keep for 15 years as well.
An up-and-coming estate that readers need to try is The Walls, which was created by Mike Martin, with the wines made by Todd Alexander. They produce several wines from throughout the state, all of which merit serious attention.

  3. VIN

Bright ruby-red. Inky, brooding scents of blueberry, cassis, menthol, licorice and black pepper. At once dense and pungent on entry, conveying a porty suggestion but also terrific vinosity to its savory black fruit, licorice, menthol and mineral flavors. A hint of peppery bitter chocolate adds lift. This wine is carrying 15% alcohol but has enough acidity to maintain shape and grip. In fact, it’s more imploded, juicy and sharply focused than particularly large-scaled. A rather oddball Rhône-meets-Portugal blend but it works. And a very good vintage for this bottling, as the tannins avoid dryness.

Numerous blends are regional variations of the renowned Bordeaux Blend. By incorporating their local signature grape alongside a basic Cabernet-Merlot blend, various regions have successfully expanded the appeal of their wines while still maintaining a distinct regional character. In Italy, this is accomplished by utilizing local specialties like Sangiovese, Montepulciano, and even the unique Lagrein from Trentino. In Austria, this is achieved with grapes like Zweigelt or...
