Wine Description

Tenuta di Arceno ARCANUM RED 2017, crafted under the skilled hands of winemaker Lawrence Cronin, is the pinnacle of Toscana IGT offerings from this renowned estate.

In the glass, the wine unveils a deep, alluring ruby hue, hinting at its expressive nature. Aromas cascade from the glass, revealing a bouquet of violets, roses, and raspberries that dance gracefully alongside delicate spice notes. It’s a wine that effortlessly seduces the senses while maintaining an air of subtlety.

The 2017 vintage brought forth expressive elegance, with ample sunshine and the right touch of rain, allowing the grapes to mature on the vine. This balance resulted in a wine with ripe fruit flavors, vibrant acidity, and explosive aromatics.

The Cabernet Franc grapes, sourced primarily from the L’Apparita and Belvedere blocks, showcase the diversity of Tenuta di Arceno’s micro-climate and soil. This pure Cabernet Franc wine offers a beautifully complex profile with herbal nuances. Aromas of ripe plums, sweet mint, sage, and thyme intertwine, leading to a luscious palate adorned with cherries, wild strawberries, and hints of licorice. Subtle cedar and toast notes follow, culminating in a finish that lingers with whispers of white pepper and truffle.

Jeb Dunnuck applauds it with 96 points, describing it as “brooding and expressive” with a “refined arch of black fruit, mocha, and earth.” Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate awards it 95 points, noting its Tuscan personality, showcasing dark fruit, tobacco, and savory nuances. James Suckling, with 93 points, sees a wine with ripe fruit, spices, and a promise of harmonious aging.

Tenuta di Arceno ARCANUM RED 2017 is a testament to the estate’s commitment to crafting remarkable wines, offering a harmonious blend of elegance and complexity. It is a wine destined to be cherished and savored for years to come.

This wine is now a 100% expression of Cabernet Franc. The 2017 Arcanum is the top-shelf red from Tenuta di Arceno. It is a rich, almost meaty wine, with dark fruit, savory tobacco, smoked bacon and sweet earth. What distinguishes this hot-vintage wine, however, are the rosemary and dried lavender that give this wine an authentically Tuscan personality. This is really quite nice.

The 2017 Cabernet Franc Arcanum is a brooding and expressive wine made entirely from Cabernet Franc. Musky aromas of graphite, cassis, cigar box, sage, and incense evolve in the glass. Weightless and full, it has ripe tannins and a refined arch of black fruit, mocha, and earth. Its ripeness is balanced with fresh acidity and delicate salinity.

Lots of ripe fruit with spices and flowers on the nose. It’s full-bodied with soft, round tannins and a chewy finish. A little dusty and woody now, but will come together nicely in another year. Drink or hold.

Tenuta di Arceno, nestled in the heart of Italy's Chianti region, is a historical gem in the world of winemaking. This distinguished estate, owned by the Jackson Family Wines Group, traces its roots back to the early 16th century when the Del Taja family began assembling a collection of Chianti vineyards. Today, it boasts an expansive 1000-hectare (2500-acre) property. In honor of its past, the reference to "Arceno" derives from the Etruscan word "archè", which means "point of... Read More

Toscana IGT, the renowned Italian wine region, stands as a symbol of freedom and innovation in the world of winemaking. Located in the heart of Tuscany, it encompasses all ten provinces of this historic region, granting winemakers the artistic license to create a wide spectrum of wines.

The history of Toscana IGT is deeply intertwined with the rebel spirit of Italian winemakers in the 1960s. Dissatisfied with the rigid regulations of the newly introduced DOC system, these vintners chose individuality and quality over conformity. Their defiance led to the birth of the "Super Tuscan" wines, characterized... Read More
