Introducing the Stags’ Leap The Leap Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, crafted under the meticulous guidance of Winemaker Christophe Paubert. This wine is a true testament to the unique character of the Stags Leap District and the exceptional 2018 vintage.

In the glass, it pours a deep, garnet-purple, reminiscent of the rich history that Stags’ Leap Winery embodies. The aroma is a symphony of dark, enticing notes that draw you in. Black berry fruit takes center stage, accompanied by the seductive scents of cassis, dark raspberry, and black cherry. Subtle hints of cedar, allspice, graphite, and espresso dance in the background, creating an olfactory masterpiece. As you explore further, savory nuances of olive tapenade and chaparral herbs unfold.

The taste is a harmonious blend of power and finesse. Blackcurrant and cassis dominate the palate, supported by the sweetness of dark raspberry and the depth of black cherry. The wine’s structure is impeccable, with velvety tannins that caress your senses, while a subtle thread of cedar and allspice adds elegance. It culminates in a long, fresh finish that leaves a lasting impression.

This wine, awarded 93 points by Wine Spectator and 94 points by Robert Parker, is a testament to the Stags Leap District’s terroir. It’s rich and broad, with warmed cassis and dark plum flavors interwoven with licorice and sassafras. As you savor it, you’ll discover a hint of iron that provides extra support, promising years of development ahead.

The 2018 Stags’ Leap The Leap Cabernet Sauvignon is a masterpiece that captures the essence of its origin. It’s a wine that combines depth, finesse, and grace in a way that has become synonymous with Stags’ Leap estate wines, and it’s a true gem from this extraordinary vintage. Enjoy now or let it evolve further in your cellar until 2037.

2 reviews for Stags’ Leap The Leap Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

  1. WS

Rich and broad in style, featuring a wave of warmed cassis and dark plum fruit flavors scored with licorice, sassafras and singed alder. Everything is knit tightly through the lengthy finish, where a bolt of iron courses underneath for extra support. Best from 2023 through 2037.

  2. WA

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon The Leap is blended of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it starts off a little closed and broody, giving way to notes of plum preserves, blackcurrant cordial and chocolate-covered cherries, plus hints of unsmoked cigars and black truffles. Medium-bodied, elegant and refreshing, it has lots of tightly wound black fruit and earthy layers with a firm, fine-grained frame and long mineral-laced finish.
