Wine Description

Crafted by Winemaker Aron Weinkauf, Spottswoode Lyndenhurst 2020 embodies the essence of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Named in homage to the fragrant linden trees gracing the estate’s historic gardens, this wine seamlessly blends grapes from Spottswoode’s own vineyards with those from esteemed family-owned vineyards, a testament to their commitment to organic farming and community collaboration.

In the glass, Spottswoode Lyndenhurst 2020 exhibits a deep, inviting garnet hue. The bouquet reveals an alluring dance of aromas, led by blackcurrant, hazelnut, and chocolate. Delicate hints of mint and sage lend a nuanced complexity.

Upon the first sip, a bright and energetic character unfolds. Medium-bodied, the wine caresses the palate with velvety softness, courtesy of finely integrated, powdery tannins. Flavors of black and red cherries take center stage, intertwined with notes of blackberry bramble, raspberry, and red currant. Subtle undertones of cocoa, dried herbs, and crushed graphite create a harmonious symphony of taste sensations.

The wine’s acidity is well-balanced, imparting structure and vibrancy. Spottswoode Lyndenhurst 2020 is a wine that can be enjoyed now or cellared for future delight. Its elegance and refinement, as noted by James Suckling with a score of 96 points, make it a standout vintage. While it’s already drinkable, patient collectors will be rewarded with an even more exceptional experience as it matures gracefully in the cellar. A true testament to Napa Valley’s winemaking heritage and Spottswoode’s unwavering commitment to excellence.

Aromas of blackcurrant, hazelnut and chocolate, with hints of mint and sage that follow through to a medium to full body, with wonderful soft and fine tannins that give a velvety texture and persistent finish. So balanced and refined. Subtle. Didn’t include wine from vineyards in Atlas Peak this year. An excellent 2020. Drinkable, but will improve so well in the cellar.

Ken’s Wine Guide
This dark ruby colored Cabernet Sauvignon from Spottswoode opens with a cassis, cedar, and black cherry bouquet with hints of black tea and black licorice. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, soft, smooth, and elegant. The flavor profile is red currant and red plum blend with notes of cranberry. We also detected some hints of cinnamon, crushed stone, and cedar. The finish is dry, and its persistent fine grained dusty tannins are very long.
