Wine Description

Rudd Mt. Veeder Leslie’s Blend 2017, a red wine blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot, 6% Malbec, uses grapes from Mount Veeder AVA in Napa Valley. The wine has 14.80% ABV. This vintage of this particular red blend is the second vintage, the first being 2016. This wine is lush, persistent, and powerful in every way. The aromatic fruit notes of cassis and black cherry become more serious on the palate, with a resin-like freshness that is always present from Mt. Veeder Estate. Texturally bold, the tannins are tight and balanced, extending the length beyond what is expected in such a young, structured wine. Sweet cocoa and baking spices bring a completeness to the final lingering taste.

Numerous blends are regional variations of the renowned Bordeaux Blend. By incorporating their local signature grape alongside a basic Cabernet-Merlot blend, various regions have successfully expanded the appeal of their wines while still maintaining a distinct regional character. In Italy, this is accomplished by utilizing local specialties like Sangiovese, Montepulciano, and even the unique Lagrein from Trentino. In Austria, this is achieved with grapes like Zweigelt or... History
Mount Veeder’s viticultural roots stretch back to the mid-19th Century. Although many vineyards flourished on this mountainous terrain by the dawn of the 20th Century, Prohibition halted viticultural activities. It wasn't until the 1960s, amidst Napa Valley's wine revival, that Mount Veeder saw resurgence. This unique region earned its American Viticultural Area (AVA) designation in 1990, an accolade that...
