The Round Pond Louis Bovet Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, a masterpiece created to honor the legacy of Louis Bovet, whose devotion to winemaking and sustainable estate-building remains an inspiration at Round Pond. Crafted by Winemaker Jason Price, with consultation from Thomas Rivers Brown, this wine is a testament to the profound terroir of Rutherford.

This commanding Cabernet Sauvignon boasts an alluring deep garnet hue. The bouquet offers an array of expressive aromas, from blackberry, violet, and anise, to the inviting warmth of black pepper spice and dried herbs. On the palate, a symphony of flavors unfolds: dark cherry, ripe raspberry, and plum seamlessly transition to opulent blueberry and a delicate touch of dark chocolate on the lingering finish. This well-balanced wine delights with supple tannins, juicy acidity, and the signature touch of Rutherford Dust.

The 2019 vintage, marked by a generous rain event in May, facilitated a season of unhurried growth. Under the watchful eye of Winemaker John Wilson, the grapes ripened gradually, avoiding extremes in heat or rain. The resulting wine embodies the rich character of the vintage, with tropical white varieties and reds offering notes of ripe raspberry and dark cherry enveloped in soft supple tannins.

The critics rave with 94 points from Wine Enthusiast, highlighting the dominant aromas of salt, pepper, and grilled herbs, while Wine Spectator awards 93 points, praising the core of currant, mulberry, and blackberry alongside cocoa, tobacco, and licorice root nuances. Jeb Dunnuck’s 93 points salute its elegance, showcasing notes of menthol, plums, and dark chocolate, supported by ripe tannins and refreshing acidity.

The Louis Bovet Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, aged for 20 months in 85% new French oak, stands as a testament to both tradition and innovation, an embodiment of family legacy and the remarkable Rutherford terroir. A wine to be cherished now and laid down for a future of ever-evolving flavors and delights.

WS 93

Wine Spectator

A nicely packed version, with currant, mulberry and blackberry notes forming a prodigious core, while bittersweet cocoa, tobacco and licorice root score the finish. Best from 2023 through 2035.

Wine Enthusiast

Aromas of salt, pepper and grilled herbs dominate the nose of this full-bodied and moderately tannic wine. A core of dark chocolate, blueberries and blackberries keeps the wine right on track, and well-integrated tannins add an appetizing texture.

Jeb Dunnuck

This is reserve serious, offering beautiful notes of menthol, plums, blueberries, new leather, and dark chocolate followed by a medium to full-bodied, concentrated red with ripe tannins, good acidity and freshness. This is one gorgeous, classy, and elegant Cab.
