Wine Description

Our Royal St. Robert bottling is dedicated to our grandfather, who has been our greatest teacher in our journey in wine. This special cuvée is a selection from our coastal vineyards, giving a window to the rugged hills of the westerly Sonoma Coast.

Vibrant aromas of black and red cherry, rose petal, and black tea fill the bowl. Wild raspberry and just-ripe red plum notes give way to coastal moss, wet gravel and forest underbrush. Western spice box notes complement the brooding, powerful fruit core, giving way to a vibrant and lasting finish.

  1. Marian Young

Review: Beautiful bouquet with blue fruit, violet/iris and spice. Med+ acidity, mild tannins, and long finish. Classic CA Pinot. Drink now or wait 2-3 years for even better taste.

  2. Sherry Dixon

1-hour decant. Peak at 3 hours. Medium body, medium+ finish.

  3. Kenneth Strohm

Pale ruby, feminine red cherry and rose petals with light tannins and nice acidity. Aged in neutral French oak barrels.

  4. Bruce Sowell

Fruity and pairs well with chocolate.

  5. Paige Sumter

Approachable now, but tannins need 1-2 more years. Bubbly red fruits and sweet whole cluster with gentle wood toast. Slight volatile tone. (84/100)

  6. Kenneth Draeger

Sonoma Coast pinot with fresh red cherry, flower petals, and mineral on the nose. Sour cherry leads to a sweeter finish. Medium body and acidity. Concentrated and enjoyable.

  7. Lorrie Daniels

    Not to my liking.

  8. Carlos Lewis

Review: Medium red with cherry, strawberry and herbal notes, medium body/acidity, low tannins and long finish. Great with grilled grouper. 92-93+. Would buy again.

  9. Ruth Riehl

Slow start, jammy with no complexity but improved after 4 hours. Needs 3-5 years in cellar for complexity. Good Pinot with high price.

  10. Richard Davis

Pale red with good clarity, this wine has a nose of red fruit and a hint of smoke. On the palate, it offers bright red fruit flavors, including cherries and raspberries, with good acidity. Overall, an enjoyable wine.

  11. Amber Royal

Wine #6832 of 32 barrels has a nice balance of tangy sweetness and fine tannins. Goes well with pork chops and smoked BBQ chicken. Expect it to drink well through 2022. EXC (92-93/100).

  12. Clara Dozier

Taste notes of under-ripe cherries, cola, and white mushrooms with pronounced tannins. Balanced acidity with a medium length finish of cola and soy sauce.

  13. Benjamin Risner

Big Californian Pinot. Opened too early. Needs years. Dark and powerful. Fine tannins, black cherry and ripe raspberry. Too bold for me.

  14. Willie Pares

Clean and refined with good acidity and spice. Great coastal influence. Loved it.

  15. Roy Beavers

Intensely aromatic with notes of apple, strawberry, rose petal, and black pepper. Complex flavors of cherry, tea, and earth with a full, long finish. Young and Burgundian in style.

  16. Nelson Pham

Great value for money, improves with time.

  17. Melody Smith

Floral with high acidity and bitterness on the finish. Decanted for two hours. Recommended, especially considering its age.

  18. Merri Roberts

Intense nose of strawberry, herbal notes, and white pepper with a mint finish. Improved on day #2.

  19. Eileen Calvery

Nose: B+/B++/A- Palate: B++. #5 for me, #7 for the group (40 pts), tasted blind.

  20. Gayle Brawner

Excellent new world Pinot with lifted aromatics of wild strawberries, red currant, rose, violets, and all spice. Firm tannins, bright acidity, and a long finish with spicy and herbal notes. Low alcohol, 100% whole cluster, and a dry wine with a medium plus acidity, medium tannins, and medium minus body. Saline finish.

  21. George Nguyen

Excellent Pinot with a balanced crunch acidity, red fruit, clove, and a long-lasting black tea finish. Perfect for cellaring or drinking now.

  22. Susan Stafford

Brilliant and intriguing wine with great development over two days.

  23. Mary Ritter

Improving with integrated oak, but slightly restrained. 12.5%.

  24. Moises Loque

Great nose of earthy red fruit with distinct whole cluster. Lean and old world style with new world fruit. Drinking well now, though the 2018 may have a longer lifespan. Very good now.

  25. Ken Marugg

Medium plum red with a silvery hue. Aromas of black plum, raspberries, roses, black tea, chocolate, thyme, and forest floor with a touch of wood. The palate has flavors of black plum, raspberries, black tea, milk chocolate, clove, and forest with a touch of wood. Medium and round with a medium finish. TC7.

  26. Bertha Martinez

Raen: Interesting, tart red fruit with cigar and tobacco notes. Structured for a Pinot.

  27. Gerald Farney

Garnet to dark garnet color. Nose of Birch root beer, black cherries, and black raspberries. Flavors of black berries. Medium to firm tannin, full-bodied. Drink over the short to medium term with a little air to open.

  28. Mildred Tobin

Killer Pinot Noir. Unreal QPR at Costco for $50. Explosive nose with tons of damp forest floor, wild raspberries or blackberries picked right off the bush. Electric acidity, intense but with a deep sense of cool, minty, lightly tannic fruit that provides the perfect compliment.

  29. Kristen Shaffer

Good value with strawberry and earthy notes on the nose. Cherry, raspberry, and savory spice on the palate. Medium finish with firm acidity and tannins. Under $50.

  30. Carlton Sisk

Fresh herbal taste dominates mid palate, with subtle red fruit notes. Delicious.

  31. Sheron Lange

Earthy and rustic, with a focus on whole clusters and Sonoma coast terroir. Red fruit shines through after a little air.

  32. Brenda George

Light to medium bodied with earthy and smoky notes, this red fruit wine is enjoyable and easy to drink.

  33. Craig Brown

Disappointing; rustic red fruits with fading structure, seems older than its age. Will finish remaining bottles soon.

  34. James Whitt

Complex Pinot with notes of strawberry, raspberry, truffles, and earth. Light pour at first, oxidizes and turns crimson.

  35. Minerva Barnette

Balanced tannins and med + acid with deep red cherry fruit, wood and slight stemmy spice, rose petal, cola, and earthy components. Will benefit from aging but not shut down.

  36. Tracy Guerra

Royal St. Robert Pinot: Earthy, fruity, and minty. Raspberry, rosemary, mint, leather, and cinnamon flavors with ample body and acidity. A top-choice Cali Pinot.

  37. Nicolette Levinthal

Young wine, floral nose, oak and wet earth palate.

  38. Marisa Ruiz

Delicate tannins, dark cherry flavors, and an intriguing graphite note in the medium-long finish. Needs a few more years in the cellar. Drink 2024-2028.

  39. Helen Downey

Lovely fresh wine with lots of berries and aromatics. Bright and precise in style, just a notch below Sea Field in terms of precision.

  40. Marvin Jones

Notes of dark cherry and bright berry blend with earthy soil and dried leaves, complemented by the tangy sweetness of hood orange. Perfectly paired with Raclette.

  41. Rhonda Fowler

Young wine with cherry, mushroom, hibiscus, cola, cedar notes. Medium tannin, acidity and mouthfeel. Wait a year for it to get better.

  42. Robert Collins

Intense black fruit, floral, and mineral notes in a rich and sweet Pinot Noir. Classic and excellent.

  43. Amelia Lew

“This wine is unbelievable. Consistent observations of flower petals, bright red fruits, sweet, saline, and tea make it perfect. Second bottle in a week.”

  44. Bernadette Smith

Old world influence with a salty touch.

  45. Merrill Everett

Smooth and balanced Pinot with smoky and earthy notes, complemented by pleasant red cherry fruits. Well done.

  46. Rosario Delgado

Medium ruby with dominant oak on the nose. After 15-20 minutes, strawberry and floral notes emerge. Dry, medium concentration, and smooth tannins with red fruit and oak on the palate. Long, dry finish with vanilla. Nice, but not quite BftB.

  47. Ronald Gant

Great nose with herbaceous notes uncommon in Cali Pinots. Purely red fruits on the palate, fresh strawberries, and touches of mud and green. Good stuff.

  48. Patricia Helland

Excellent coastal Pinot. Medium-bodied, well-balanced with good acidity. Generous red fruit with earthy and spice box notes. Ready to drink now. 12.5% abv.

  49. Barbara Gates

Complex and elegant with lovely red fruit, violet notes, and a hint of pepper. Wonderful.

  50. Jason Ramos

Earthy with good fruit level. Warm, with notes of strawberry and lit cigar. Best after opening up for an hour. Pairs well with Maryland style crab cakes and after dinner.

  51. Jessica Newman

Great style. Low alcohol, fruity, and balanced. Perfect for pairing with food or sipping alone.

  52. Russell Freeman

Earthy and spicy with hints of cherry and raspberry on the nose. Stemmy from whole cluster. Fellow tasters favored it more than I did.

  53. Glenn Hardy

Enjoyed this whole cluster Pinot with Wagyu NY strip and foie gras at V Mertz. Reminded me of Domaine de la Cote wines.

  54. James Witt

Elegant Pinot, summer fruit aroma, rich and plush taste, classic style highlights the fruit and vintage.

  55. Nancy Tesch

Medium ruby with bricking. Nose has black cherries, rhubarb, earth & crushed stones. Medium plus acidity, tannins & long finish.

  56. Tina Golden

Elegant and well-balanced Pinot but short drinking window according to Cellartracker.

  57. Earl Reynolds

Delicious after decanting for 30-60 minutes.

  58. Julie Winebarger

Solid Pinot with cherry notes and a light body, but lacked depth.

  59. Amanda Vazquez

Full-bodied and powerful Cali Pinot with strong raspberry scents on the nose and palate. Lacks freshness and lift. Perfectly decent juice but not much upside from here.

  60. Patrick Jackson

Burgundian with lean cherry, mineral notes and high acid. Good, but requires aging.

  61. Rodney Colburn

Great nose of blackberry, dark cherries, minerals, and forest floor. On the palate, pine forest, dark cherries, and black tea. Best in 5 years.

  62. William Segal

Silky long finish with cherry, pomegranate, and earth balance.

  63. Gary Burns

Fruity and sweet, lacking earthiness and leather. Not a Burgundian, but a decent California pinot. Likely to please the crowd.

  64. Susan Denley

Primary with raspberry candy notes. Needs time to develop.

  65. Bruce Spriggs

Young wine, great for group dinners. Imported by 나라(와인)셀라. Beautiful and stunning aroma.

  66. Peggy White

Great wine choice at the Four Seasons Hotel’s Group Year-End Party. Carlo & Dante Mondavi’s wine did not disappoint.

  67. Grace Guintanilla

Light and floral with whole cluster crunch. Sweet cherry and good acidity. Good now, better with time.

  68. Debra Erickson

Excellent wine with fruity notes that transforms into a balanced and savory taste. Cherry, plum, raspberry flavors with earthy notes and fine tannin finish. Best consumed in 2-5 years.

  69. Theresa Todd

Chateau Biawak Chapter 9: SONOMAvatar – The way of water is a 13.0% ABV wine with an elegant floral nose, brambly blackberries, cherries, spicy forest floor, and dusty tannins.

  70. Aaron Montgomery

Floral scents, light body, integrated tannins, tart cherry, and darker fruits on the finish. A great Pinot, despite being thinner than others from Sonoma or Monterey.

  71. Jack Wells

Sharp and savory with little fruit or oak.

  72. Yetta Smith

Floral and earthy with cranberry notes, this mid-weight wine is elegant on the palate and at its peak.

  73. Michael Staggs

Good but not great. Expected more for $70.

  74. Terry Mckennon

Refreshing with a cherry gelatin color and fresh strawberry aroma. Tangy with hints of blood orange and lemon zest. Coats tongue and cheeks.

  75. Stella Lafountain

    Delicious and at peak maturity.

  76. WS

Beautifully defined, with pinpoint damson plum, mulberry and blood orange notes stretched out over a frame of rooibos tea and savory accents. Mouthwatering through the lengthy, unadorned finish, which relies on tension and purity. Drink now through 2032.

  77. WA

Pale to medium ruby, the 2021 Pinot Noir Royal St. Robert is bursting with fragrant scents of raspberry, cranberry, rhubarb, orange peel, tea leaves and bitters. The medium-bodied palate is chalky and refreshing with pure, expressive fruit and a long, floral finish. Juicy and inviting, drink it now for all that floral perfume, or let it develop in bottle over the next 5-7 years.

  78. JS

Extremely spicy with iron, forest flower, black tea, and dried strawberry aromas, following through to a medium to full body, with lovely velvety tannins that are integrated and refined, with a long and flavorful finish. Yet it always remains refined and poised in a exemplary way. Needs three or four years still to show it’s true self. Drink or hold.

  79. VIN

The 2021 Pinot Noir Royal St. Robert is outrageously beautiful. Deep, pliant and layered, the 2021 is an absolute delight. A burst of sweet red berry fruit, sage, mint, crushed leaves and spice all open in a yielding, mid-weight Pinot endowed with striking balance. There’s gorgeous texture and resonance here. However, the rewards of this persnickety grape are extraordinary. Pinot Noir wines possess a remarkable flavor profile, often described as silky, with vibrant acidity, delicate tannins, and an array of aromas. Expect to encounter red fruit notes like cherry and raspberry, accompanied by earthy undertones, floral hints, and sometimes a touch of spice.
