Pinea 17 2019 is a remarkable wine from the renowned Bodegas Pinea del Duero in the Ribera del Duero appellation of Spain. Crafted by the talented winemaker Isaac Fernandez, this wine pays homage to the significant year 2017 when the winery introduced their flagship PINEA to the market. The vineyards, situated at an elevation of approximately 3,000+ ft. above sea level, endure challenging weather conditions, including snowy winters and scorching hot summers, with drastic temperature fluctuations of up to 40 degrees between day and night.

The meticulous viticulture practices employed by the winery, emphasizing sustainability and organic methods, contribute to the distinct “mountain” character of the fruit. Hand-harvested and carefully selected grapes undergo a non-interventionist approach to vinification, allowing the fruit to shine. Following patient aging for 20 months in French oak barrels, the unique terroir and unwavering attention to detail throughout the winemaking process result in an exceptional expression of the Tempranillo varietal.

This wine shows signs of maturity with a beautiful nose of boysenberry, tobacco leaf, and dirty red fruit. It has a medium body with a noticeable herbal influence and finishes with a sweeter character and noticeable acidity. It has a lot of improvement to make and is best enjoyed around 2025.

Impressive bottle with black cherry, blackberry, herbs, plums, leather, and spice aromas. Palate offers black cherry, fig, saddle leather, and red licorice. Herbal middle, firm oak finish. Full-bodied with a round mouthfeel. A very good and mature wine at 5 years old, can age for another 7 years.
