Wine Description

Pinea 17 2019 is a remarkable wine from the renowned Bodegas Pinea del Duero in the Ribera del Duero appellation of Spain. Crafted by the talented winemaker Isaac Fernandez, this wine pays homage to the significant year 2017 when the winery introduced their flagship PINEA to the market. The vineyards, situated at an elevation of approximately 3,000+ ft. above sea level, endure challenging weather conditions, including snowy winters and scorching hot summers, with drastic temperature fluctuations of up to 40 degrees between day and night.

The meticulous viticulture practices employed by the winery, emphasizing sustainability and organic methods, contribute to the distinct “mountain” character of the fruit. Hand-harvested and carefully selected grapes undergo a non-interventionist approach to vinification, allowing the fruit to shine. Following patient aging for 20 months in French oak barrels, the unique terroir and unwavering attention to detail throughout the winemaking process result in an exceptional expression of the Tempranillo varietal.

In the glass, Pinea ’17’ 2019 reveals a ruby core with a deep garnet-red rim. The nose is highly perfumed, exuding enticing aromas of dark forest berries, cherries, and ripe blackberries. Subtle hints of vanilla and delicate notes of cedar provide a pleasing backdrop to the aromatic profile.

On the palate, this wine boasts a medium body with a velvety texture and a deep, rounded finish. It offers a sensory journey as flavors unfold gracefully. The wine exhibits a well-regulated acidity derived from the mineral-rich chalky soils in which the vineyards thrive.
