  1. WA

The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is buoyant and lifted with lots of bright cherry and raspberry fruit that pops from the glass. Despite the heat and the drought of the growing season, this wine produces grace and softness with ethereal layers of balsam herb, cola and dried rose potpourri. The finish is dry, tight and firm but also silky and long. This is a terrific effort from Piancornello.

  2. JS

Sweet berries and cherries with some flowers. It’s medium-to full-bodied with fine tannins and a fresh and an extremely long finish. Really nicely done for this hot vintage. Juicy. Just give it another year or two, to even it out Try after 2022.

  3. VIN

The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is understated with rosy florals, nuances of cherry and worn leather contrasted by a whiff of sour citrus. This impresses with its silky textures and cool-toned persona, as brisk acidity carries ripe red berries and minerals across the palate. It finishes lightly structured, yet full of sapid character, hints of plum and licorice lingering incredibly long under an air of purple-tinged florals. While Piancornello is located in Sant’Angelo Scalo, the Podere del Visciolo hails from a small vineyard on the northern hill of Montalcino, close to Montosoli. This is the first vintage that I’ve seen this fruit bottled as a Brunello, and it makes for a great introduction.
