Wine Description

Peter Franus Zinfandel ‘Brandlin Vineyard’ 2018 is youthful, vibrant, and medium ruby in color, the nose greets you with bramble fruits, white pepper, allspice, clove, and a touch of vanilla. The flavors reflect the nose with more wild berry notes, cranberry, and a hint of coffee. The tannins are subtle and integrated and lead to a lip-smacking finish. Plenty of pleasure here.

I like to ferment our Zinfandels at temperatures slightly lower than those for Bordeaux reds to accentuate the zesty and forward fruit character of the variety. Aging exclusively in Burgundian French oak barrels adds complexity as well as refinement to the wine.

  1. WS

Well-structured yet rich, with zesty fruit, opening to plump blackberry, smoky sage, clove and other spices. Drink now through 2029. 925 cases made.

  2. JD

Coming all from Mt. Veeder and a blend of 90% Zinfandel, and the rest Mourvèdre, Charbono, and Carignan, the 2018 Zinfandel Brandlin Vineyard has lots of black and blue fruits as well as classic Zinfandel candied orange, violet, and incense-like aromas and flavors. Nicely textured, medium-bodied, and beautifully balanced, drink this charming red over the coming 4-6 years.

Its initial success found strongholds in Napa and Sonoma counties, where it continues to flourish. Zinfandel's fascinating journey has uncovered intriguing connections. Extensive DNA research has confirmed its identity with Italy's Primitivo, shedding light on its shared history. Primitivo itself has Croatian origins, known as Tribidrag and Crljenak Kastelanski, further enhancing the mystique of Zinfandel's heritage. In the United States, California's diverse climatic conditions and soil profiles... Read More

History
Mount Veeder’s viticultural roots stretch back to the mid-19th Century. Although many vineyards flourished on this mountainous terrain by the dawn of the 20th Century, Prohibition halted viticultural activities. It wasn't until the 1960s, amidst Napa Valley's wine revival, that Mount Veeder saw resurgence. This unique region earned its American Viticultural Area (AVA) designation in 1990, an accolade that...
