Wine Description

The Paul Lato Goldberg Variations No. 1 Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay 2018 is a masterful creation by winemaker Paul Lato, showcasing the distinct charm of the Carneros region. Known for his expertise, Lato has crafted a Chardonnay that defies convention. This rendition of Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay 2018 diverges from the typical opulence and honeyed richness often found in this terroir, presenting a more refined and laid-back character.

Pouring a radiant golden hue, the wine immediately captivates with its enticing aromas. A bouquet of pineapple and tangerine oil dances on the nose, intertwining with delicate white flower notes. Subtle hints of new French oak provide an enchanting tropical flair, hinting at the wine’s complexity.

On the palate, the Chardonnay reveals its full-bodied nature, embracing a fusion of fruit and spice. The opulent flavors of ripe peach and nectarine mingle with subtler tropical undertones, delivering a symphony of tastes. A touch of brioche and spice adds depth and texture to the medium-to-full-bodied richness. The wine’s texture is both powerful and weightless, a testament to Lato’s craftsmanship. Its concentration is balanced by a lively acidity that imparts a sense of vitality and freshness.

The finish is a testament to the wine’s quality, characterized by its length and purity. Notes of minerals linger on the palate, accompanied by a captivating floral perfume that echoes the wine’s elegance.

Critically acclaimed, the Chardonnay Goldberg Variations Hyde Vineyard 2018 has garnered impressive scores. Jeb Dunnuck awards it a remarkable 97 points, praising its ripe fruit, spice, and brioche notes. Wine Advocate bestows 96 points, highlighting its powerful yet weightless profile with mineral and floral nuances. Vinous, awarding 94 points, echoes the sentiment of its distinct character that stands out even in Hyde Vineyard’s opulent tradition.

This wine is a true testament to Paul Lato’s artistry and the unique terroir of Carneros, a harmonious orchestration of flavors and aromas that promises enjoyment over the next 5-7 years.
