Wine Description

Introducing the O’Shaughnessy Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, expertly crafted by winemaker Sean Capiaux of Manzanos Wines. This remarkable red wine originates from the esteemed Howell Mountain AVA in Napa Valley, bearing testament to its terroir with a robust 14.80% ABV. The wine’s opulent presence is unveiled as it pours into the glass, revealing an almost impenetrable deep purple hue that speaks to its concentration. The bouquet captivates the senses with an intricate blend of aromas, where blackberry compote harmonizes with delicate notes of orange blossom. Hints of cassis contribute a dark fruit complexity, elegantly intertwined with the essence of creme brulee. Subtle undertones of cocoa add an alluring layer of anticipation. On the palate, the wine’s luxurious character comes to life, boasting well-integrated tannins that envelop the senses with a velvety touch. The finish is both vibrant and enduring, a testament to the meticulous craftsmanship.

This wine has earned exceptional critical acclaim, with Decanter awarding it 94 points for its distinctive blend and impressive focus, anticipating a drinking window from 2024 to 2035. James Suckling’s rating of 93 points highlights the wine’s aromatic finesse, featuring blue flowers and fruit, complemented by licorice, tea leaf, and dark chocolate undertones. Firm tannins and fresh acidity culminate in a balanced profile with a distinct saline note cutting through the dark fruit. Ready to be enjoyed from 2023 onwards, the O’Shaughnessy Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 promises an evolving tapestry of flavors and sensations that reflect the essence of its unique origin.

  1. DEC

A unique blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, 5% Malbec, 3% Petit Verdot, and 2% each of Saint Macaire, Carmenere, and Cabernet Franc. Charred wood, pipe tobacco and black cherries on the nose. Texturally, the most focused and persistent of the O’Shaughnessy Cabernets. The palate is both generous and nimble, showing substantially chewy, textbook Howell Mountain tannins. A rustic Cabernet housed in a contemporary core. Drinking Window 2024 – 2035

  2. JS

Blue flowers and fruit on the nose, as well as licorice, tea leaf and dark chocolate. It’s medium-bodied with firm, tight tannins and fresh acidity. A distinct, saline streak cuts through the dark fruit. Try from 2023.
