Wine Description

Drawn from top Napa vineyards: Stagecoach, Hardman Stanton and Greenwood with each vineyard fermented separately in small tanks. Native fermentation started after a 5-day cold soak and reached a peak temperature of 90°F. The wines were pumped over a few times a day until dry and then pressed and drained to barrels where malolactic fermentation occurred. Aged in 50% new medium toast French oak barrels, the wine matures for 22 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Fresh and vibrant with great mouthfeel and a long finish, this wine is very approachable in its youth. Drinking well now, it exhibits classic Napa Cabernet characteristics with surprising depth. This wine sets the standard for high quality Napa Cabernets and will age beautifully for the next 15 years.

3 reviews for Merryvale Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2017

  1. WE

Thick, woody and savory in cedar, pencil shaving and sage, this wine is substantial in style and weight, with firm tannin and toasty oak. Rich layers of black fruit, tobacco and dark chocolate complement the earthy opening. This will do well with further aging; enjoy best from 2025–2030.

  2. JD

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon checks in as 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Merlot that spent 22 months in 50% new French oak. It offers a clean, classic, straightforward bouquet of cassis, toasted spice, and graphite as well as medium-bodied richness and depth, present yet ripe tannins, and a solid finish.

  3. JS

A pleasant red with currant and chocolate aromas and flavors. Medium body, round tannins and a delicious finish. Not much structure, but friendly to drink. 85% cabernet sauvignon, 10% cabernet franc and 5% merlot.
