Wine Description

Leonetti Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 is an expressive and well-structured wine made from 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Malbec, 6% Petit Verdot, and 6% Cabernet Franc. This vintage was skillfully crafted under the expert hand of winemaker Chris Figgins, who was able to bring out the best of the grapes and the climatic conditions of the year.

The visual experience of Leonetti Cabernet Sauvignon is intense: deep, dark crimson to the rim of the glass, that promises a great tasting experience. The aromas of this cabernet come from a blend of dark cherries, blackcurrants, walnuts, licorice, and rose petals. On the palate, it is full and structured, with fine-grained tannins that are pleasingly firm but not excessively chewy. The juicy and mellow fruit appears stealthily underneath, while a creamy finish provides a pleasing and comforting feeling.

Leonetti Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 was aged for 22 months in a combination of new and once-filled French oak barrels and puncheons, and neutral oval botti. This aging process further enhanced its structure and aroma profile, bringing the blend to its peak quality. While it is a great drinking wine on its own, it will certainly benefit some additional years of aging, as suggested by critics – ideally up to 2025 – so those who have a few bottles of this classic Cabernet Sauvignon should be patient and wait for its full potential.

Leonetti Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 is an exquisite experience of aromas and flavors, packed in one perfectly structured and balanced bottle. A great tribute to winemaker Chris Figgins and the quality of grape and the climatic conditions of the vintage.

  1. Vernon Dixon

Loved this trendy wine in a blind taste test of Washington heavy hitters. Fruit, new spice, and silky mouthfeel. Splash decanted 36 hours earlier.

  2. Douglas Fraser

Excellent wine with notes of blackberry, boysenberry, tar, and sweet tobacco. Drinking exceptionally well.

  3. Jessica Webster

    Bitter taste, robust nose, disappointed.

  4. James Baines

Flavors of strawberry, blackberry, and tart cherry with a hint of pepper. Full mouth feel with earth and soil undertones. Lingering strawberry finish.

  5. Madeline White

Velvety smooth with an old-world type of red fruit. Improved with air over 60-90 minutes. Great with tapas.

  6. Tara Seiberling

    Airing improves taste.

  7. Toni Hicks

Balanced expression with fresh black fruits, acidity, and minerality. Silky textures and long finish with sneaky tannins. Hype justified.

  8. Judith Niswander

    Age this wine before drinking.

  9. Andres Falcon

    Great berry spice.

  10. Nora Bryan

Balanced tannins and robust fruit. Drink now or age.

  11. David Morey

Young with blue and black fruits and hints of licorice. Hold until 2021/22 for a 94+ rating.

  12. Geraldine Mickens

Aging potential with earthy berry, vanilla and leather notes.

  13. Alice Fromm

Decant for one hour. Rich and complex with black licorice and fruit flavors, full-bodied with a great structure and long finish. Built for aging, a great mix of old world and Washington.

  14. Jena Hadfield

Recommendation: Full-bodied with crushed violets, coffee, and fresh herbs. Impressive lingering finish, worth the price. Highly recommend.

  15. Frank Biddle

Dark ruby color with faint tobacco in the nose. Black currant, cherries, and spice. Medium to full bodied. Softer, more refined, and complex.

  16. Felicia Pigeon

Fruity with barrel spice and cinnamon notes, strong tannins but ready to drink. Oak should be toned down.

  17. Lynn Thomas

Bold and smooth with a fine sediment finish.

  18. Todd Hendryx

Classic Walla Walla cab with big bold red fruit, spice, leather, and earth. Delicious but still young with medium tannins and a long finish. Superb and will improve with time.

  19. Eugene Rael

Superb! This full-bodied and complex wine will only get better with time. Wait another year or two before indulging.

  20. Jean Nichols

    Needs 3-5 years to excel.

  21. Jessie Crispin

Aromas of black cherry, rosemary, lavender and coffee. Silky smooth with dark cassis, spices and tobacco. Long, enjoyable finish.

  22. Donald Szmidt

Napa-style fruit bomb, lacks complexity and depth. Score: 93 pts.

  23. Joseph Kane

“Great blueberry, anise, fennel and leather. Needs time, still tannic.”

  24. Erik Koch

Young but maturing, smooth and delicious with potential. Decant for an hour. Needs a few more years cellaring.

  25. Angela Vitiello

Silky tannins make this young wine easily approachable.

  26. Garth Swiger

Review: Blue and black fruits with hints of licorice. Integrated but young, improves after an hour. Spice notes on long finish. Hold until mid-2021.

  27. James Embry

Reviewed a Washington Cab semi-blind, but as a California guy, not my usual.

  30. Charles Love

    Tasty.

  31. Audrey Salazar

Tight and tannic, needs a few more years to lay down, but lots of potential with cassis and plum flavors.

  32. Coralie Johnson

Wow wine! Give it a few hours to open up or hold for later.

  33. Lorraine Espinoza

    Good wine.

  34. Donald Stones

    Revisit after 3-5 years.

  35. Teresa Andon

Decanted for 4-5 hours but failed to evolve as expected. Delicious but not great with lamb shanks. Needs time to improve. HOLD.

  36. Peter Salvietti

Lavender and rosemary still prominent after 3-hour decant. Meaty nose. Palate features cassis, espresso and tobacco. Lingering, round finish. Fabulous with Roquefort topped tenderloin.

  37. Rachel Dziuban

Plush & powerful. Black fruit, cherry, coffee notes. Long finish & soft tannins. Primary fruit is exploding. Drink well for 10-15 years.

  38. Sharon Foster

Great taste, not worth the price tag over $100.

  39. Denis Langley

Needs time to open up, end of the bottle shows promise.

  40. Ramon Ford

Review: PnP. Open from the start.

  41. Gladys Gray

Best producer of Cabernet in WA, period.

  42. Deborah Thurgood

Good structure, seamless, but lacks interesting flavors. Mostly plum and cassis. Young and primary, should be held.

  43. Sandra Contreras

Rich and balanced, with flavors of cassis, cocoa, and leather. Plush finish hangs on.

  44. Jessica Mata

    Satisfyingly pleasant.

    Needs time, young, big, layered.

  50. Anthony Beech

Classic cab with cassis, leather, and oak aromas. Bigger bodied with smooth tannins and a long black fruit finish.

MN Valley’s Fine Wine Tasting Meetup was great. Notes of plum, spice, cherry, and florals with firm tannins. Young, but has great potential. Medium plus finish. 93 points.

Intense blackberry and tobacco flavors in this robust wine.

  53. Robert Cummings

Well-crafted young wine that develops richness and depth after a couple of hours of opening.

  54. June Rue

Primal elegance. Currant paste, blackberry, and minty earth. Fine tannins with grip. Drink 2025 – 2037.

  55. Corina Holien

Delightful raspberry and floral notes with a spicy and candied red fruit finish. Leonetti’s Walla Walla wine is delicate and refreshing.

  56. Brian Mcgrath

Good tannin structure at first, but dissipated and evolved into dark fruit with vanilla. Notes of blackberry, coffee, and dark chocolate spice.

  57. Jeffrey Florence

Lambert’s bottle is surprisingly red fruited and juicy with an earthy touch. It’s serious, but not too serious. Excellent.

  58. Barry Harrell

Full-bodied and honest in taste. Notes of cherries, tobacco, pepper, earth, and graphite with a hint of cedar. Chewy tannins and a long, smooth finish. Excellent.

  59. Jefferson Cassels

Brother Sebastian’s PnP has a clear, dark ruby appearance with medium+ intensity aromas of cassis, black raspberry, spice, and tobacco. It has a dry, medium+ acid palate with soft, medium+ tannin, medium+ body, and 14.5% abv with flavors of dark fruit, spice, and earthiness. It’s exceptional and pairs well with Prime Rib and NY Strip.

  60. Pablo Christion

Leonetti vintage lacked depth but showed promise after three hours of aeration. Astringency was present, but the acidic backbone was noteworthy. Scored 93 after gaining balance.

  61. Virginia Mashburn

Wine has grown bigger in 3 years, with secondary flavors. Needs more time to breathe.

  62. Greg Hudson

Plump baked plum, cocoa, and integrated tannins with a touch of oak. Great structure and flavorful finish.

  63. Jason Davis

Complex nose with hints of soy. Dark, rich cherry on nose and palate with balanced acidity. Elegant cab that outshines Napa wines. Drinkable now, ages well.

  64. Richard Nicholson

No, it doesn’t suck. It has a distinct prune and cranapple flavor.

  65. Jamie Mayer

Excellent 4-year-old cab with earthy and spicy notes. Delicious and will only get better.

  66. Juan Yohn

“Deep ruby-red. Muted nose with black cherries, cedar, forest floor and dark cocoa. Needs 3 years to develop. Dark berries, spices & volcanic soil on palate. Long finish. Drink by 2045.”

  67. Delores Miller

Full-bodied with ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries & cassis. Medium-full bodied with a well-balanced concentration of ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & plums. Long lingering finish.

  68. Brian Weaver

Ripe, structured, yet elegant. Lots of potential to be a classic.

  69. Kelly Larson

Leonetti Cab is fantastic with a beautiful bouquet of black currant, black cherry, mocha, and cedar. It’s full-bodied with flavors of black raspberry, blackberry, dark chocolate, and vanilla. Enjoy over the next two decades.

  70. Robert Lunsford

Great potential, needs time to reach its peak.

  71. Julie Levitsky

Great wine. Massive nose of ripe red fruits, forest floor, mushrooms, leather, and cigar smoke. Tight and young on the palate with big tannins but well-balanced. Match with red steak and grilled veggies.

Great now, even better later. Enjoy now or save for later.

  73. Douglas Jordan

    Delightful, recommended for cellaring.

Cabernet Sauvignon is a red grape varietal that is widely regarded as one of the world's most popular and highly valued wine grapes. This grape is grown in many regions around the world, including France, the United States, Australia, Chile, and Argentina. The wine made from this grape is known for its intense flavor, high tannin content, and longevity. Cabernet Sauvignon is a hybrid grape, the result of a cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, which are both native to the Bordeaux region of France. The grape is known for its thick skin, which helps it to withstand harsh weather conditions, and its small berries, which contribute to its concentrated flavor. Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are typically harvested in the late fall, when the grapes have reached their optimal... Read More

Nestled in the southeastern corner of Washington state, extending gracefully into Oregon, the Walla Walla Valley AVA stands as a testament to the fusion of geography and passion that defines great winemaking regions. This picturesque valley cradles vineyards on both sides of the border, flourishing amidst the hills that embrace the meandering waters of the Walla Walla River, a tributary of the Columbia River. Walla Walla's vinous journey is a tale of revival and innovation. It traces back to the 1850s when settlers, captivated by the region's potential, planted the first vines. However, the Idaho Gold Rush and the... Read More
