Wine Description

The Lail Vineyards Blueprint Sauvignon Blanc 2022, created by renowned winemaker Philippe Melka, celebrates the commitment of Lail Vineyards’ to the Porto Protocol – a global initiative asking companies to demonstrate their leadership on climate action. This white wine, produced in Napa Valley, showcases exemplary quality and taste with only 888 cases produced.

Having hailed from recognized vineyards Coombsville and Yountville, the Blueprint Sauvignon Blanc 2022 shows a bright yellow-green hue in the glass. On the nose, it is characterized by fresh and fragrant aromas of honeydew melon, tangerine, green and yellow apple, lime, and Asian pear. On the palate, it has a creamy and complex texture that carries grapefruit, jasmine, and Bartlett pear flavors. Notes of citrus zest, sweet pea, mango, and yellow peach also come through, giving it vibrancy and zest.

Critics have noted the wine’s ability to show a range of richness and hints of honey backed up by steely, gravelly notes, light grasses and whispers of Meyer lemons. Its flavor profile was also praised for its suppleness and slight polish, which is coupled with the ability to firm up across the palate with cellaring. Developing flavours of lobster dishes would be the perfect companion to the Blueprint Sauvignon Blanc 2022.

At Lail Vineyards, crafting fine wines that have stood the test of time is a family tradition. Alongside the hard work of the winemaking team, the blend of its ingredients – the land, the seasons, the spirit of generations before, continues to show through in every one of their products. The craftsmanship and dedication that goes into the network of people and processes have created the distinct Blueprint Sauvignon Blanc 2022 – a shining example of what Napa Valley can bring to the fine wine industry.

Lail’s Mr. Melka made a great wine. Georgia bottling is worth splurging on. Citrus flavors throughout with a zip line finish. Great with spicy food.

Decent Cali SB, but pricier than alternatives. Will wait a few years for potential improvements.

  17. Jennifer Ramsour

  18. Greta Gaines

Flavors of honey dew, cantaloupe, and orange zest with a mineral touch and refreshing acidity. Grade A-.

Well-balanced SB with a coconut, grass, and tropical fruit nose. Perfectly paired with grilled shrimp, red rice, and garden salad. Great for summer, have two more.

  25. Daniel Goodwin

  27. Jason Clay

Lovely SB with tropical fruit aromas, pear, grass, and mango on the palate. Perfect for poolside sipping.

  28. Mittie Gillis

Sav. Blancs are evolving- softer, fruitier, less acidic. This wine fits the bill. Minerality was more pronounced on day two. Perfect for hot summer days.

  29. Joanna Murphy

Tropical nose with white flowers, pineapple, and mineral tones. The acidity upfront, restrained style with light phenolics show structure. Well made and nice style.

  30. Barbara Huerta

Balanced with a spicy aroma, light tartness, and fruity notes of pear and citrus. Lovely acidity and mineral notes followed by a pleasant finish.

  31. Hector Welch

Smokey lychee fruit with oak and mineral notes on the nose. Fresh acidity on the palate. A well-made Sauvignon Blanc at an attractive price point, ready to drink now.

Subtle Napa Sauv. Blanc, decent but not great value.

Great summer white! Muted flavors but nice complexity. Perfect for patio sipping and socializing.

  35. Michael Hernandez

Fresh and linear, with stone fruit, citrus, and mellow grapefruit flavors. Subtle green notes and a slightly spicy finish.

  36. Richard Novak

The 2018 Blueprint Sauvignon Blanc is a medium-bodied wine with high acidity and a crisp, refreshing finish. It has notes of lemon, lime, pineapple, and dried herbs. 100% Sauvignon Blanc, 14.3% ABV, 1,342 cases produced.

  37. Adam Gregoire

Napa SB with lemongrass and wet stone aroma, pineapple note, good structure, acidity, and medium finish.

  38. Richard Macdonald

Balanced acidity, refreshing wine. Citrus nose, grapefruit edge, pear midpalate. Long clean finish.

  39. Ching Lovell

Straw-colored wine with moderate complexity and oak notes. High acidity, medium body. Good but not excellent for the price. Score: 91-92.

  40. Laura Pinsonnault

    Same as April 2020.

  41. Jean Ramos

Excellent Sav Blanc with copious tasting notes on CT. Drink at 48-54 degrees and has the potential to age for 3-5 years. Enjoy!

  45. Russell West

Reliable and enjoyable, but not remarkable.

  46. Robert Scherer

Good acidity and some fruit, but could be better.

  47. Daphne Liestman

Highly rated at 90 by WS, 95 by WE and 92 by JS, this 14.3% SB is priced at $40 from TW. It’s smooth and balanced, with a unique taste. Despite the price tag, it’s worth buying again to share with friends.

  48. Richard Johnson

Tart grapefruit and lemon zest with a peppery frame. Viscous mouthfeel, balanced acidity. Finishes long with sharp citrus flavors.

  49. Stephen Rodriquez

Tasting notes: 10+ year old wines including 2009 Raymond Generations Cabernet, 2010 Syzygy Saros Red, and 2004 Two Hands Aphrodite Cabernet. WOTN – Tie between 2009 Raymond Generations and 2004 Aphrodite. Overall, an excellent tasting!

  50. Raul Watt

Popped and poured, probably around 45-50 degrees. This is floral, with mango and tangerine aspects. A little oak. As with some of the top Cali SBs (Merry Edwards, Jonata) there’s more weight than is varietally typical and the mix of wood and stainless adds intriguing texture. Really enjoyed this. 92-93

  51. Jesse Cower

Disappointing $30 California SB. Nice aroma, tropical fruit taste, high acidity, but not worth it compared to NZ.

  52. Patricia Hoggins

Flavorful, aged wine with mineral, citrus, and spice notes. A touch of hay/grass adds complexity. Crisp without being too acidic. Rated 92 by me and 91 by my wife. Hit the spot.

  53. Robert Loeschner

Pear and citrus dominate with a hint of grapefruit. Good alcohol and acidity balance.

  54. Thomas Culver

Perfectly acidic citrus notes complemented the spicy peanut noodle dish.

  55. Jose Lechner

Balanced with good acidity and astringency. New world style, no oak. Perfect with vinaigrette.

  56. Jonathan Cervantes

Good everyday Sauvignon Blanc with notes of grapefruit, sour fruit, and crisp acid. Well-made but not particularly memorable or special.

  57. John Cheung

Lail and Melaka’s wine is well-made with clean, crisp tropical fruit flavors and hints of green apple. It has a creamy texture, possibly from the French oak. Similar to a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Greatness is to be expected.

  58. Michael Eikleberry

Smells like Napa with oak in a good way.

  59. Mary Lavadera

Second taste is richer and rounder with a less pronounced aroma.

  60. Carolyne Nixon

Consistent and great value. Grassy nose with tropical fruit hints. Balanced acidity and richness. Perfect with swordfish, mushrooms, and salad.

  61. Wilford Kuntzman

Blueprint Sauvignon Blanc 2020 has a creamy and richly layered demeanor with intense aromas of stone fruits, white flowers, and pear. It is a fun wine to watch as it develops.

  62. Earl Davis

Creamy mid-palate, lacks acidity on finish, not a good pairing for typical varietal foods.

  63. Audrey Seymore

Clean and focused with grass, melon, and citrus notes. Guessed domestic sauv blanc.

  64. Robert Brodersen

Wine with stone fruit, guava, white melon and tart white grapefruit. Light gold, medium bodied, light to medium legs. Powerful acidity, no heat. Medium complexity, good persistence and intensity. Worth it. 92+.

  65. Ella Vazquez

Full-bodied, complex Sauvignon Blanc with a grassy bouquet, integrated oak, and a long finish. Great with salmon. Pricey but worth it.

  66. Jack Loper

Solid wine, pairs well with pesto. Terrific!

  67. Jacquelyn Alvarez

    Simple and straightforward.

  68. Wendy Akerley

  71. Julie Rennels

Clean, pure, intense fruit with hints of almonds and lemon. High acidity and unctuous. Sophisticated and not tropical. A stunning wine.

  72. Edward Sanchez

Delicious SB with stone fruit, shale, and pineapple notes. Best served at 55 degrees. Similar to Lail SB, but cheaper.

  73. Bruce Vasquez

Full-bodied with well-integrated oak and great fruit. Balanced with lively acidity and a 14.3% ABV. Pricey but worth it. Great with fried calamari and swordfish. Napa SB’s are a favorite.

  74. Daniel Strong

A well-balanced Sauvignon Blanc with hints of apple, almond, lemon, and lime. Improves at room temperature. Great with crab cakes.

  75. Karen Lovelace

Lail Vineyards’ SB is a nice choice with fresh tropical fruit and mango flavors. It’s very dry and has high acidity.

Connoisseurs Guide
Veering away from the fresh, grassy model for Sauvignon Blanc and instead showing a mix of richness and hints of honey backed up by steely, gravelly notes, light grasses and whispers of Meyer lemons, this nose promises much and the wine delivers fully on the palate. It is supple and somewhat polished to start yet firms up across the palate in a way that invites a few years of cellaring for those who will resist its current charms. It has the range and stuffing to work with rich lobster dishes.
