Wine Description

La Serena Gemini Riserva Brunello Di Montalcino 2016 is both a cru and a reserve, born from the bunches of our best vines, planted in 1993. The vines surround our cellar and their production is about 60 ql per hectare. The grapes are harvested manually at the beginning of October, after the destemming the fermentation starts. Our gemini has the privilege of fermenting and maturing in truncated cone vats of about 70 hl dedicated to it. In the same vat we follow the alcoholic fermentation, the malolactic fermentation and finally the aging, as long as needed and generally never less than 36 months.

  1. WS

This seductive red is signaled by alluring black cherry, blackberry, leather, wild herb, tobacco and iron aromas and flavors. Firm yet remains balanced and intense through the long, fruity, minerally and savory aftertaste. Shows superb energy and complexity. Best from 2025 through 2047. 950 cases made, 200 cases imported.

  2. VIN

The zesty 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Gemini leaps from the glass with its wild bouquet of spiced citrus peels, shavings of pine, mint leaf and currants. It coasts along the palate with silky yet youthfully dense dark red berries and licorice tones, while leaving a coating of salty minerals and fine tannins in their wake; yet throughout all, a core of juicy acidity maintains fabulous balance and energy. A pretty inner sweetness lingers, contrasted by a sour twang of citrus and tart cranberry fruits, as the 2016 tapers off structured, long and unexpectedly fresh. A number of years in the cellar will be required to soften the blow, but Gemini will be worth waiting for.

The Brunello di Montalcino wine region, nestled in the heart of southern central Tuscany, Italy, is a historic and prestigious destination for wine enthusiasts worldwide. Its rich history dates back to the early 14th century when the first records of red wines from Montalcino emerged. The region gained recognition for its wine when French mercenary leader Blaise de Montluc, during the siege of Montalcino, discovered the remarkable qualities of the local wine.

However, it was in the 1870s that the modern Brunello di Montalcino style took shape, largely thanks to the pioneering efforts of... Read More
