  1. WA

The 2019 Estate Cuvée, a blend of 50% Syrah, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot, has a deep ruby-purple color and fragrant aromas of cassis, licorice, dried roses, leather and youthful new oak spice. The full-bodied palate is silky and uplifted, with fine, savory accents and a very long, mineral-driven finish.

  2. JD

Pure perfection from Paso Robles, the 2019 Estate Cuvee checks in as 50% Syrah, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Petit Verdot that was raised in 81% new French oak. Incredible cassis and black berry fruits as well as violets, chocolate, graphite, and who knows what else emerges from the glass, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a concentrated yet weightless mouthfeel, building tannins, and a great finish. Stephan Asseo, who’s assisted more and more by assistant winemaker Patrick Davies, continues to keep his L’Aventure estate near the top of the pyramid in Paso Robles. This report looks at the 2019s and 2020s, and both appear to be beautiful vintages. The 2019s are some of the finest wines I’ve tasted at this estate and have a rare mix of power and vibrancy, with incredible aromatics and sensational purity and precision on the palate.

  3. JS

Blackcurrants, crushed stone and lavender with some rosemary. Full-bodied, yet it spirals deep and true on the palate, with creamy tannins and a dark, brooding finish. Provocative on the palate. Asphalt and spice notes.

  4. VIN

Opaque ruby. A highly complex, expansive bouquet evokes smoke-accented black and blue fruits, oak spices, incense, mocha and potpourri. Sappy, sharply delineated cassis, blueberry and cherry preserve flavors show energetic mineral lift and betray no rough edges. In an ample but lively style, finishing smoky and wonderfully long, with a resonating cherry note and chewy tannins that sneak in late.

The term "Red Blend" refers to red wines that are crafted from unusual or uncommon grape varieties or combinations thereof. It is also a convenient label for wines whose specific blend is either unknown or undisclosed. While these rare red-wine blends are typically intricate, many of them adhere to specific patterns. Numerous blends are regional variations of the renowned Bordeaux Blend. By incorporating their local signature grape alongside a basic Cabernet-Merlot blend, various regions have successfully expanded the appeal of their wines while still maintaining a distinct regional character. In Italy, this is accomplished by utilizing local specialties like Sangiovese, Montepulciano, and even the unique Lagrein from Trentino. In Austria, this is achieved with grapes like Zweigelt or... Paso Robles, an expansive and diverse winegrowing region nestled at the southern end of California's Central Coast, boasts a rich history that dates back to the late 18th Century. The roots of viticulture in this region were planted by Spanish missionaries, who introduced the Mission variety grapes. By 1882, the region's earliest Zinfandel vines marked the establishment of its first commercial winery. Covering a vast expanse of 666,500 acres (270,000ha), the official Paso Robles AVA stretches across the northern half of Read More
