The  harvest of the grapes for 2020 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir ‘Sta. Rita Hills’ began two weeks earlier due to several heat spikes throughout the summer and extended an additional five weeks due to slow ripening conditions which led to high quality and character development of the grapes. Bursting with vibrant red fruit, baking spice, and an earthy core, this fascinatingly layered wine is delightfully unique.
NOSE An explosion of red fruit with an understated yet elegant savory quality. Nostalgic notes of cinnamon stick and clove mesmerize.
MOUTH Deeply rich with an earthy core and copious amounts of fruit. Refreshingly light on the palate with well-integrated tannins and unique flair.
VINEYARD Drum Canyon, Sanford & Benedict, Our Lady of Guadalupe (formerly Bloodlines), Bentrock, Radian, Francesca, Hilliard Bruce, Rita’s Crown, Mt. Carmel
CLONES 667, 777, 115, 2A, Swan, 828, 23
FERMENTATION 62% stainless steel, 20% concrete, 18% wood, 3% whole cluster

  1. WS

Very alluring, with Damson, griottes and mulberry fruit seamlessly layered with black tea, sous bois and sandalwood hints. Long, refined finish lets all its perfume linger prettily. Drink now through 2029.

  2. WE

Snappy red-cherry aromas meet with tarragon and other fresh garden herbs on the nose of this appellation bottling. The palate is vibrant and fresh with red fruit as well as prominent spices like mace and cinnamon, but that minty tarragon tone is what ups the uniquely delicious quotient.

Kosta Browne is located in the heart of Northern California. It has vineyards in some of the best wine areas of the state. The Sta. Rita Hills wine region, recognized as an American Viticultural Area (AVA) since July 2001, boasts a storied past steeped in viticultural heritage. Initially christened as Santa Rita Hills, the area underwent a rebranding to Sta. Rita Hills in 2006, following a dispute with Vina Santa Rita, a prominent Chilean winery. Spanning roughly 14,000 hectares (36,000 acres), this AVA primarily cultivates Pinot Noir, alongside other varietals like Chardonnay, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, and more.
