Wine Description

Gap’s Crown Vineyard is considered by many to be one of the best representations of what the Petaluma Gap AVA, the southern component of Sonoma Coast, is all about. Since we began working with this site in 2006, its meteoric rise into the pantheon of great Pinot Noir vineyards has been extraordinary.
Sweeping vineyards with dramatic elevation changes and clonal variety define this celebrated site. Each year, this wine appeals to Burgundy fanatics and California Pinot lovers alike. Made from five clones and fermented in an array of stainless steel, concrete, and wood vessels, the 2020 Gap’s Crown Vineyard Pinot is as exuberant as it is irresistible, revealing layers of sun-kissed blackberry, cedar, and spices. Soft and silky, its dark fruit flavors flow across the palate, underscored by velvety tannins, finishing with a wealth of energy, drive, and power.

NOSE: Bursting with fresh-picked blueberries, blackberries, baking spices, and lifted vanilla aromatics.
MOUTH: An iconic palate with dark fruit flavors underscored by elongated velvety tannins. A finish with a wealth of energy, drive, and power.

Lovely depth of fruit and beauty to this, with crushed-strawberry, hazelnut and floral undertones. Full and deep. White pepper and cloves at the end. Drink or hold.

This versatile, well-balanced and attractive wine can be enjoyed now for its elegant, moderately tannic texture and fresh red and black cherry flavors, or saved for a future dinner party. Best from 2026-2030.

Pinot Noir grapes exhibit a distinct elegance. Their thin skins and tightly clustered berries make them susceptible to disease and challenging to cultivate. However, the rewards of this persnickety grape are extraordinary. Pinot Noir wines possess a remarkable flavor profile, often described as silky, with vibrant acidity, delicate tannins, and an array of aromas. Expect to encounter red fruit notes like cherry and raspberry, accompanied by earthy undertones, floral hints, and sometimes a touch of spice. Renowned regions such as Burgundy in France, the Willamette Valley in Oregon, and California's Sonoma County have become synonymous with exceptional Pinot Noir production. Each region brings its own terroir and climate, contributing to the wine's character. Burgundy, for instance,... Read More
