The 2021 Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin Chablis has intense aromas reminiscent of Granny Smith apples, pear and citrus peel. On the palate, the medium-weight flavors are succulent and rounded with a refreshing salinity. This is a benchmark example of a classic Chablis, with hints of greengage and white peach, excellent concentration and length, as well as a mineral character to finish.

The winemaker of this classic Chablis is Benoit Droin, who owns 10ha of AP Chablis. Benoit is a meticulous winemaker who carefully combines traditional viticulture with modern winemaking techniques and contemporaneous understanding of climatic conditions. Utilizing his family vineyard’s exceptional microclimates, he provides the perfect environment for the Chardonnay grape to express its terroir. The Chablis climate allows an extended growing season which allows the grapes to ripen slowly and fully, producing a crisp, mineral-driven and balanced Chablis.

By relying on his vineyard’s geographical assets, Benoit Droin has crafted the ideal Chablis, blending his family’s decades of viticultural knowledge with his passion for winemaking. The finished wine offers intense aromas and flavors of Granny Smith apples, pear, and citrus peel, with rounded succulence and a refreshing salinity. Enjoy this classic Chablis, a benchmark example of what village Chablis should be.

    1. Sarah Stracke

Great value for money! Fresh, crisp and balanced with lemon and mineral notes. Will age well.

    2. Allen Smith

Excellent QPR Chablis with a sharp taste of green apple and lemon, and a depth not found in Argyros. 4/5 potential for more (consumed on day 2).

    3. Robert Robinson

Lively, sharp, straight, long, lemony with a mineral backbone. Unfortunately, prices keep rising. Very good.

    4. James Garza

Classic Chablis with a strong iodine and shellfish finish, pure and reliable. Not as magical as the 1er crus, but a solid choice.

    5. Randy Lawrence

Balanced, fruity, and elegant with a medium body and high acidity. A complex and deep mix of green apple, lemon, mineral, grapefruit, and cream with a medium-long finish. Plenty of upside for this youthful wine.

    6. Homer Meehan

Excellent young Chablis with lime, lemon, pear, and green apple notes. High acidity and minerality with a relatively long finish. Rated 92 points.

    7. Robert Peek

A well-balanced Village Chablis with a gorgeous fruit profile. 89+.

    8. Georgia William

Rich and creamy Chablis with surprising sweet notes and moderate acidity. Saline finish. Not the preferred style. Expensive. (**1/2+)

    9. Agnes Justice

Richer than Napa Chardonnay, yet still better. Improves with aeration.

    10. Roy Manning

Fresh Chablis with added deliciousness. Top-notch.

    11. Richard Murray

Changed from first tasting, now more ripe fruit. Benefits from breathing and better on second and third night. Good wine for the level and easy to obtain on the market.

    12. Angie Barnes

      Mineral and savory.

    13. Cheryl Kridel

Skunky nose, taught, yellow apple. Needs time to become more expressive.

    14. Steven Longwell

Great value wine, pairs perfectly with oysters. Light oak notes.

    15. Wallace Stein

Rich and suave for a Chablis, with a subtle iodine signature and pineapple notes. Slightly surprising sweetness. Will likely balance out and gain tension with age. Well-made and clean.

    16. Shawn Rivera

Review: Simple and straightforward Chablis with firm and lime-y acidity. Best served young and fresh. 89.

    17. Barry Thompson

Classic Chablis fruits with fresh acidity and warm vintage structure. More stone fruit than usual. Good value for money.

    18. Sara Garcia

Light straw yellow color with notes of green and yellow fruits, a hint of sour citrus and green apple, and a mineral finish that reminds of wet stones with a touch of salt. Refreshing acidity, perfect pairing with fresh shrimp!

    19. Doyle Lehrke

Classic shellfish aroma with lemon undertones. Oily texture with a pleasant saltiness and dominant lemon and floral notes. Short yet tasty.

    20. David Brito

One-dimensional with slight fruit and high acidity. Rated 86/100.

    21. Carlene Archila

Unexpectedly steely and citrusy, with moderate 12.5% alcohol. Light straw color, oily minerals, lemon zest, green apples, and baked fruit. Medium to full-bodied with fine acidity and a tannic aftertaste. Top value.

    22. Andrea Brown

Best 2018 wine so far. Flinty, rounded, and delicious. Love this producer.

    23. Leigh Bell

Mineral nose with tennis ball, citrus fruits, oyster juice, and a hint of flowers or grass. In the mouth, dense and slightly tropical with lime instead of lemon. Less acidic than the 2017 vintage.

    24. Andrea Nunez

Chablis paired well with cheese balls and smoked salmon, not overpowering.

    25. Lawrence Hardesty

Not enough minerality, butter, and intensity, but enjoyable.

    26. Angela Larson

Mineral notes, lacks length but satisfying for its rank. Rated 87/100.

    27. Michael Anderson

2019 Chablis is a refreshing blend of 2017/2018. Notes of Asian pear, citrus peel, lemongrass, crushed rocks, and spring herbs. Bright and refreshing palate with a saline midpalate.

    28. Brittany Sodomka

Disappointing 2018. Flat and short. Expensive compared to Gueguen’s salty coast.

    29. James Campbell

Opulent Coco au Boutte, not very Chablisien but well-made. Pairs well with spicy cuisine.

    30. Jill Jenkins

Solid Chablis, in between 2017/2018. One point downgraded for lacking chiseled structure. Step up from 2018.

    31. Theodore Hoover

Acidic, iodine, and lots of coconut flavor!

    32. Regina Hasas

Classic style with good richness and a lemon and fennel flavor. Nice texture but slightly disjointed bitter finish. Overall, a beautiful wine.

    33. Donald Miller

Drinkable, but lacks interest and energy.

    34. Francis Eliason

      Same as ludwigbpm’s review.

    35. Judith Foster

      Love it. Crisp and dry.

    36. Charles Peron

“Good for the price, but I prefer the 2017 by far.”

    37. Susan Nelson

Deep yellow Chablis reflects 2019’s torrid vintage with mature aromas of peach, pear, and red apples. Mineral/chalk and nut/olive stone notes. Full-bodied with smooth fruit and hints of lime, a fine acidity kicks in with a tannic finish. Drink now or cellar for 5 years.

    38. Joseph Vanhouten

Auction mistake turned out well. 35 yr old vines, balanced pest control, pale gold color, ripe fruit, lacks region’s steeliness.

    39. Karyn Austin

Beautiful golden color with hints of vanilla, tropical fruits (pineapple, coconut) and pear. The wine has a nice texture and is well balanced with yellow fruits, coconut and vanilla. The finish is refreshingly acidic, making it a well-made wine.

    40. Michael Nunez

      Great Chablis, Jeanne approves.

    41. Steven Card

Rich and round, but with the Chablis spirit present. Generous fruity taste with a touch of exoticism. Digestible concentration, rated 89+.

    42. Patricia Brown

Loose opening, lacks concentration, slightly watery with a hint of petillance. Improved over two nights, with fine Chablis acidity and sea-breeze freshness. A bargain at $25.

    43. Bruce Souza

Vibrant citrus and chalky mineral notes in this crisp, pure, and clean pale yellow wine make it a strong village level option.

    44. Linda Reader

“Chablis with tropical and raisin notes, improves with aeration. Delicious, will revisit.”

    45. Irving Kipping

Deliciously creamy with bright acidity and a lovely finish.

    46. Sean Garcia

Chablis with creamy and round texture, fermented with native yeasts, and aged in stainless steel tanks. Around 70,000 bottles produced each year. Nice Chardonnay with some minerality. 90+.

    47. Tracy Smith

Delicate and enticing, with hints of white flowers and hay. Finely balanced, with a pleasing bitter note. Highly recommended.

    48. Maureen Mapes

Great value, clean, elegant, delicate with classic chardonnay aromas, good acidity and perfect for seafood.

    49. Robert Andres

Mineral and Chardonnay-typical with oyster shell aromas. Prefer 2019 vintage.

    50. Toby Rodenberg

Rich palate with sweet citrus and pineapple notes, hint of chalkiness and acidity. Nose has a ripe peach and tropical fruit aroma with a hint of rubbery, reductive character.

    51. Edgar Howard

Welcoming, soft and well-rounded wine. Lacks Chablis’ energy but still a good wine. 89.

    52. Juan Keane

Intensely citrusy with fresh grass notes. Wonderful.

    53. Marvin Yamazaki

Balanced with a hint of citric salinity.

    54. Sonia Miller

Review: Pronounced cheese and fruit nose, crisp acidity, medium body, and a long finish. Lacks complexity but very good quality wine, suitable for ageing.

    55. Brenda Scott

Balanced and classic Chablis. Light straw gold with lemony, mineral, and saline notes. Lovely and long finish.

    56. Vern Uribe

Rich and round with a hint of minerality. Salty tension and a Chablis-style finish. Accessible and well-crafted. 89/90.

    57. Heather Thomas

Dry and bright with excellent clarity, superb with seafood. – Elizabeth’s on 37th, Savannah, GA.

    58. Gregory Garrett

Rich Chablis with oyster shell, saline, and bitter notes. Good freshness for a hot vintage. Enjoy now or in the next 2-3 years.

    59. Justine Lange

Fresh cut fruits on the nose, saline Chablis tang in the mouth with hints of hay and great depth.

    60. Walter Rowald

Bright and energetic with notes of orchard fruits, citrus peel, asian pear, and almonds. Chalky and saline mid-palate, medium finish with slight richness. Solid Chablis, reminded me how much I enjoy Droin.

    61. Marion Stewart

Overripe Chablis with tropical notes of pineapple, lime, and vanilla. Broad and acidic palate with grapefruit, oyster shells, and chalk. Too ripe for a Chablis.

    62. Guadalupe Motes

Lemon and citrus scents, with white fruit and floral notes. Moderate acidity, medium body, and decent length. Lack of freshness and tension, won’t age well. Best within 2-3 years.

    63. Catherine Robles

Restrained nose, tight palate with buttery notes, well-structured with a long finish. Potential for improvement.

    64. Linda Lanzillo

Sorry, but I cannot provide an answer as “A BOIRE” does not provide enough context for me to understand what you want me to rewrite. Please provide more information or the original review for me to work with.

    65. Judith Miller

Intensely concentrated with lemon, ripe apple, flowers, and almond paste. Good acidity and tartness. Refreshing and well-balanced, best consumed chilled. Great with steamed Dungeness crab.

    66. Vanessa Manalili

Excellent Chablis, pairs well with oysters and scallops, saline mineral finish.

    67. Marcus Cozart

Well-made Chablis with saline citrus and dry mineral notes, plus a lingering finish.

    68. Charles Paul

Good Chablis with salinity and verve. Decanting recommended for yellow fruit flavor.

    69. Anna Sanmiguel

Intensely citrusy aroma, fresh and mineral taste with a Chablis-like profile. Ready to drink now.

    70. Robin Oberle

Excellent quality Chablis, simple yet very good.

    71. Anthony Martino

Pure citrus and wet stone nose, refreshing acidity, creamy structure, mineral finish. All on point!

    72. Arielle Gross

Zesty citrus, wet stones, and saline notes with refreshing acidity. Great entry-level Chablis.

    73. Bertram Rhoden

Great value Chablis with pear, pineapple, and ripe apple flavors. Saline notes lead to a long finish. Enjoyable now.

    74. Adrian Sequeira

Medium intensity yellow color. Aromas of exotic fruits, honeysuckle, and light lemon. Decent palate with good salinity, lacks length.

    75. Jon Gary

Fresh and lemony with crushed oyster shell notes. More body than Petit Chablis. Good value.

    76. DEC

Droin owns 10ha of AP Chablis. Much more interest here with a deeper hue in the glass and much more interest on the nose. Some greengage on the palate, together with a hint of pear and white peach. Pretty much a benchmark example of what village Chablis should be. Concentration and a lengthy mineral character to finish.

    77. VIN

The 2021 Chablis Village has a fresh nose with Granny Smith apples and a touch of fresh pear. With good balance and acidity, the palate is quite saline in the mouth with veins of orchard fruit, hints of wild peach and citrus peel, delicate and refined on the finish.

    78. BUR

This is aromatically similar to the Petit Chablis though with more citrus elements in evidence. There is again good richness to the succulent and rounded medium-weight flavors that also exude a refreshing salinity on the clean, moderately dry and sneaky long finish that is slightly firmer.
