Wine Description

Dragon’s Tooth Red Wine Blend 2018, made by Trefethen, opens with expressive aromas of cherry and blackberry accented with notes of fig, tobacco leaf, and sarsaparilla. Full-bodied and balanced, the integrated flavors of ripe dark fruit lead to a lush and abundant finish. Winery Chef Chris Kennedy enjoys Dragon‘s Tooth with earthy and rich cuisine. He suggests pairing it with our Creamy Mushroom Pasta. The complementary flavors, textures, and intensity of both the dish and the wine are stunning.
Blend: 49% Malbec, 27% Petit Verdot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon

  1. JD

Based largely on Malbec blended with 27% Petit Verdot and 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Red Blend Dragon’s Tooth offers lots of smoked black fruits, toasty oak, chocolate, and darker, herbal, cedary notes to go with medium to full-bodied richness on the palate. The Petit Verdot becomes more obvious with time in the glass, and this rich, concentrated, yet elegant red blend has plenty to love. It’s terrific today with a decant yet should easily evolve for a decade or more.

  2. JS

A rich, round red with plum, berry, chocolate and walnut character. Lots of cherry flavors. It’s full-bodied with round tannins and a delicious finish. 49% malbec, 27% petit verdot and 24% cabernet sauvignon. Drink or hold.

The term "Red Blend" refers to red wines that are crafted from unusual or uncommon grape varieties or combinations thereof. It is also a convenient label for wines whose specific blend is either unknown or undisclosed. While these rare red-wine blends are typically intricate, many of them adhere to specific patterns. Numerous blends are regional variations of the renowned Bordeaux Blend. By incorporating their local signature grape alongside a basic Cabernet-Merlot blend, various regions have successfully expanded the appeal of their wines while still maintaining a distinct regional character. In Italy, this is accomplished by utilizing local specialties like Sangiovese, Montepulciano, and even the unique Lagrein from Trentino. In Austria, this is achieved with grapes like Zweigelt or...
