Critical Acclaim

IWR 96
International Wine Report
The 2020 En Chamberlin Vineyard from Cayuse is a scintillating 100% Syrah that is aged for 18 months in 15-20% new French oak barrels. More red and blue fruit dominated at first but quickly moves to more meaty and salty components like black olive tapenade and black-peppered salumi. I love the lustrous and smooth palate that ends with that perfect level of funk that I find in wines made in the area. Just 408 cases were crafted. Highly recommended.

Jeb Dunnuck
Ripe black raspberries, iodine, spring flowers, gamey meats, and pepper all emerge from the 2020 Syrah En Chamberlin Vineyard, a deeper, broader, medium to full-bodied Syrah with ripe, rounded tannins, a great mid-palate, and outstanding length. This meaty, gamey, complex, classic Cayuse Syrah is already approachable today but will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for 15+.

James Suckling
Roasted thyme, gravy, salted plums, porcini mushrooms, mocha, black pudding and charred bark on the nose. Intense, ashy and meaty, with a medium- to full-bodied palate containing powerful smoky elements, all underpinned by firm and tight tannins. From biodynamically grown grapes. Try in 2024.

Owen Bargreen
The Cayuse ‘En Chamberlin Syrah’ was first produced back in 2002 when I was a college senior at Whitman College. Right now, the nose is absolutely popping with bright red cherry and red raspberry, garrigue and stony notes alongside shades of charcuterie. The palate comes off very polished and viscous with serious verve and a gorgeous core of red and dark fruits. With more air this becomes more stony and savory, with salted green olive and white pepper notes as this beauty is going to gratify now and over the next few years.
