Lisa Togni Description
With a background in history and a Master’s degree in business administration, Lisa Togni’s path to winemaking might not have seemed obvious. However, her passion for the wine trade led her to work in the import business in San Francisco for Boisset, the renowned French winemaking firm. But destiny had a different plan for her.
In a surprising twist, Lisa decided to join her parents, Birgitta and Philip Togni, at Philip Togni Vineyard in Napa. Today, she stands as the winemaker and co-owner alongside her parents, who are also heavily involved in the venture. Birgitta focuses on the vineyard, while Philip, a former student of wine legend Emile Peynaud, brings his winemaking expertise to the table.
Lisa’s journey back to the family vineyard involved learning experiences from harvests at Château Léoville-Barton and working two vintages in Australia. Her dedication and skill as a winemaker have been evident since she assumed the role in 2011.
Founded in 1981, Philip and Birgitta Togni’s vineyard initially cultivated Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Over the years, they shifted their focus to Bordeaux red wine varietals—Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Their wines, starting with Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc in 1983, have now evolved into a captivating Margaux-type blend, showcasing their commitment to excellence.
Through Lisa’s talents and her family’s dedication, Philip Togni Vineyard has achieved continued success, making their familial arrangement a win for all. As Lisa continues to craft exquisite wines, her journey exemplifies the harmony of history, business acumen, and a passion for winemaking.
