Chris Phelps, a native of Livermore, California, found his passion for wine at an early age. This led him to pursue a dual degree in enology at UC Davis, before venturing to the prestigious Institute of Enology at the University of Bordeaux.
During his time in Bordeaux, Chris had the invaluable opportunity to work with influential mentors like Christian Moueix and winemaker Jean-Claude Berrouet. Under their guidance, he imbibed the essence of wine and its deep connection to nature and terroir.
Returning to Napa Valley, Chris honed his skills at Dominus Estate, specializing in Bordeaux-styled wines. Later, he joined Caymus Vineyards, where he was instrumental in producing the acclaimed Caymus Napa Valley and Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon.
His approach to winemaking is marked by minimal intervention, allowing the exceptional grapes to shine through in the final product. Chris believes in interpreting the story told by each vineyard, respecting its unique character.
