Growing Season & Winemaking

The 2023 season began with record-breaking winter rains, restoring soil moisture and ending years of drought stress. Vineyard Manager Domenick Bianco oversaw a season marked by steady growth, low irrigation needs, and ideal budbreak. With mild summer conditions and no pressure from extreme heat, grapes ripened slowly and evenly. Harvest took place from October 11–17, entirely dictated by flavor and phenolic ripeness rather than weather. Yields finished slightly above average, with exceptional fruit quality.

The blend—87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec, 5% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot—was hand-harvested at night, fermented in small lots, and aged for about a year in French oak (60% new). After blending, it returned to barrel for another seven months, deepening its structure and layering complexity. With a total production of 2,600 cases, the MEtain wine remains a coveted release from the estate.
