The 2019 Greer Cabernet Sauvignon is a masterpiece from the esteemed Greer Winery, located in the heart of Napa’s Rutherford Bench, a region known for its legendary vineyards. Crafted by winemaker Aaron Pott, this wine exemplifies the unique terroir of Rutherford. With only 454 cases produced, this exclusive Cabernet Sauvignon promises a luxurious and rare experience. Aged for 19 months in a mix of 60% new and 40% once-used French Oak barrels, it delivers an unparalleled depth of flavor.

The napa greer wine captivates with its deep garnet-purple color and enticing aromas. On the nose, expect crème de cassis, toasted spice, and a touch of smoked tobacco, beautifully complemented by cedar pencil undertones. As it opens, layers of blackcurrant, baked plums, boysenberries, and perfumed hints of violets emerge, accented by earthy nuances of tilled soil and black truffle. This bouquet is focused, precise, and multi-dimensional, making it truly singular.

On the palate, the wine is round, supple, and incredibly opulent. Its medium to full-bodied structure, combined with ripe tannins, delivers a savory-laced and layered texture. Flavors of dark red cherry, plum, and delicate spice mingle seamlessly with notes of menthol, iron, scorched earth, and lingering tobacco and incense, culminating in a stunning, long-lasting finish.

This vintage reflects the slightly warmer growing season of 2019, showcasing tremendous concentration and balance. It stands out as a classic representation of Napa Cabernet, embodying the pedigree of the Rutherford Bench while remaining fresh and focused.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon reflects a slightly warmer vintage than the 2018, showing a bit more power and darker fruit characters but also slightly less perfume. Offering up classic notes of cassis and dark loam, it's still tremendously supple, concentrated and long. From a superbly situated three-acre vineyard on Manley Lane in Rutherford, I suspect availability will largely be limited to the mailing list.

In contrast, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is more round and supple, with loads of pure Napa magic in its notes of crème de cassis, toasted spice, smoked tobacco, and cedar pencil. Full-bodied, opulent, and loaded with fruit, it still stays pure, precise, and focused, with ripe tannins, a layered, multi-dimensional texture, and one incredible finish. I finished my notes with “Awesome.” Both the 2018 and 2019 are incredible, singular wines readers should seek out.

Glorious purity of fruit here with blackcurrant and violet aromas that follow through to a full body. Yet, it’s tight and poised, showing the essence of cabernet sauvignon. Super length. A joy to taste. Fantastic, but try after 2025.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a flat out stunner. Rich, ample and explosive, the 2019 possesses tremendous depth and pedigree to burn. Dark red cherry, plum, lavender, spice and menthol race across the palate. Time in the glass brings out a whole range of aromas and flavors that add stunning complexity. Iron, scorched earth, tobacco and incense linger on the potent finish. What a wine!

    The Wine Independent
Deep garnet-purple in color, the single-varietal 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is quite closed to start, soon unfurling to offer glimpses of blackcurrant cordial, baked plums, and boysenberries leading to perfumed wafts of violets, tilled soil, and black truffle. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers savory-laced layers with a rock solid structure of firm, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long.
