Goldeneye Anderson Valley Pinot Noir is a quintessential expression of one of California’s most celebrated cool-climate Pinot Noir regions. Founded in 1996 by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn, Goldeneye Winery was created to honor Anderson Valley’s unique ability to produce Pinot Noir of precision, elegance, and depth. Crafted predominantly from estate vineyards, this wine reflects the region’s defining influences of coastal fog, wind, and dramatic diurnal shifts.

The 2022 growing season began with a relatively dry winter followed by cool spring temperatures, resulting in a later-than-normal budbreak and bloom in June. Mild summer conditions encouraged slow, even ripening, allowing the fruit to develop complexity while retaining vibrant natural acidity. An early September heat event accelerated ripening at an ideal moment, followed by cooling rains that restored balance and allowed the winemaking team to harvest methodically. The result is fruit with excellent concentration, structure, and impeccable balance.

This wine is made entirely from 100% Pinot Noir, sourced from Goldeneye’s Confluence, Gowan Creek, and The Narrows vineyards. Fermentation was conducted in small lots using open-top fermenters, separated by block, clone, and pick date to preserve vineyard individuality. The wine was aged for 16 months in 100% French oak, with 48% new and 52% neutral barrels, lending subtle structure and complexity without overshadowing the purity of fruit.

On the nose, this Anderson Valley Pinot Noir opens with lifted aromas of pennyroyal, ripe cherry, and delicate forest notes, accented by hints of chanterelle mushroom. The palate is refined and layered, offering flavors of blackberry, leather, and breakfast tea supported by smooth tannins and refreshing acidity. The finish is long, elegant, and expressive, revealing the wine’s depth with each sip.
