   Aromatic nose, raspberries and licorice. Still green pepper on the palate, but also red fruits and flowers and good acidity with strong tannins. Good but revisit in 6-7 years.

   Very smoky and bacon nose, almost saline.. taste os sappy and saline black cherries, bacon finish, very polished and ripe tannins, overall very delicious wine!!

   Ruby throughout; medium plus opacity. Red and black fruits with dust, flowers, spices, orange peel and pepper. The palate is high, round silty tannins enclosing dark chocolatey fruits. Finishes long and clean. Delicious.

   Dark ruby-purple. Medium intensity nose with blueberries, plums, smoke, kirsch, spice and milk chocolate. Great balance between fruit and savoury notes.Palate: medium+ body. Alcohol perhaps a little bit sharp. Firm tannins but not overpowering. Moderate+ finish. Very good.

   Guigal’s wines from the Côte-Rôtie with Philippe Guigal (Zoom): Wine 2 of 6. A blend of 96% Syrah and 4% Viognier. Aged in casks for 36 months, 50% new. 14% ABV. Expressive nose. Floral notes, red and dark fruit, cherry, raspberry, blackberry, light dark chocolate, spices and light vanilla, with medium-level acidity, medium-fine tannin, and very good length. The finish is lightly tannic and dry, but in a positive way. The discrete oak is well integrated. Start drinking from 2027.

The palate is very juicy, light, elegant again, firm tannins, there is a nice balancing mineral note here, ripe stone fruit, peach notes, red cherries, medium to full body, nice acidity and long finish

   Showing power of the vintage, in a usual, polished Guigal style.purple fruits and violets, meat and smoke from the oak on the nose, with hints of sweet cherries and vanilla. Full of polished big tannins, drying oaky finish with cherry lozenges and licorice on the finish. Quality and potential is good, will live well, easily 20 years wine.If you really like Cote Rotie wines, it’s good thing to try Guigal wines time to time. They mature really well and I like them at least 15 years old from vintage. This will deliver and score will increase with maturity. give it at least 12 years from vintage.

    Guigal La La New Release (2018) Dinner with Brett Crittenden (Prince Wine Store South Melbourne): Very fine, complex. 7% Viognier. Blue fruits. A lovely wine but simply overshadowed on the night by the 2019 Vignes de l’Hospice and especially the 2018 d’Ampuis.

    Medium plus intensity aromas of black hued fruits – berry over plums, a little sweet spice, slight earth, cedar. medium plus intensity acidity, dense dark fruits, a little oak in support, tannins are drying, slightly woody talc textured tannins that persist exceedingly long with the fruit. Lovely.

    Guigal founded in 1946, owns most appellations in Rhône (North and South).Grapes collecting from Cote Brune (dark clay) and Cote Blonde (granite / limestone). 2018 was warm vintage. 96% Syrah and 4% Viognier. 36 months in 50% new oak.Nose very fruit forward with violets, pepper, black plum, blackberry. Could almost be new world, likely indicative of sunny vintage. A little earthy.Palate appear as warm weather driven, quality fruit showing black cherry, black plum, although palate is more closed than nose. 50% new oak not very noticeable, favorably complemented by high acidity and strong fruit. Smooth, sun-ripened tannings. No tertiary characteristics. Neither are the flavors totally integrated as a whole, but the framework is certainly there. Can drink now, but has potential for ageing.

    TBD. Compare to 2017 CR from Bonnefond(Rozier).Fabulous. Powerful, structured with the usual tasting notes of CR as others have indicated.Pronounced Ruby Intensity, with red and black berries.Spices. Vanilla. Dry,Balanced, noticeable tannins at this stage, though resolving nicely already with delicate oak. This will become an elegant wine, more then just is even at this minute. A decade of aging should be extended, though taste often, abd buy more.96 % Syrah, 4% Viognier.14% abvComparing both the Rozier vs Bonnefond, I give both wines 90 points for different reasons. At this stage, the Bonnefond is more soft, elegant, and the Guigal is similar, younger and has significantly more over tannin, likely taking it to a longer life. But, who knows… I’ll likely drink them both before they becomes worrisome. They’re both fabulous!PS- Drink the Rainbow

    Drank blind at our Xmen zoom tasting. Most guessed northern rhone here/no great mystery. (wine supplied by Walnuts). Generous nose of black fruit, wood, pepper and some pine. Medium body, ripe black and red fruit, slightly hot with black pepper, some earth and minerality. Modern style here–oak is noticeable. The wine looked, tasted and smelled like a very young wine, so I was surprised to notice tannins mostly resolved already. Good drinking currentlyPS: Drank following 2 nites: fruit and wood have mellowed, wine improved overall with time

    This pushes lots of alder, incense and singed tobacco notes to the fore, with commensurate cherry and red currant paste flavors following behind that, finishing with perfume and red tea accents. This is not shy with its oak treatment and very nicely done. Best from 2022.

    While the 2018 Cote Rotie Brune et Blonde comes across as being slightly less complex than the 2017, it’s also fruitier and more overtly charming. Cherries and berries abound in this supple, medium to full-bodied effort that finishes long and silky.

    I suspect the 2018 Côte Rôtie Brune Et Blonde will be up there with the top vintages of this cuvée, and it shows how strong 2018 was for Côte Rôtie. Beautiful cassis, vanilla bean, spring flowers, and subtle oak nuances give way to a full-bodied beauty that has both power and finesse. I love the tannin quality here, and while it’s going to be accessible in its youth, it’s also going to age gracefully on its purity and balance.

    All of the classic Cote-Rotie aromas (leather, smoked bacon, spices and black cherry) pour from the glass of this rich and fleshy wine. Very silky texture, in spite of the generous, fine tannins, which build beautifully at the long, complete finish. Drink or hold.
