The Castiel Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 2021 is a small production gem, crafted by the renowned winemaker Celia Welch. Coming from the steep slopes of Howell Mountain, Napa Valley, this vintage showcases the unique terroir of the region, where cool summer days and slightly warmer autumn nights create a perfect environment for growing Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 20 months in 70% new French oak barrels, allowing the flavors to develop beautifully.In the glass, the wine reveals a deep garnet-purple color, hinting at its intense and powerful character.The nose is rich and layered, with aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, and mulberry, accompanied by subtle hints of tobacco, bay leaf, and forest floor. There are also notes of cocoa dust and a touch of baked cherry pie, making the aroma both complex and inviting.

On the palate, this full-bodied wine is concentrated and dense, showing layers of dark fruit flavors like ripe blackberry, black currant, and plum. The mid-palate is well-structured, supported by smoky wood and spices. You’ll also notice hints of vanilla, espresso, and chocolate. It's a full-bodied, concentrated, powerful Mountain Cabernet revealing ample smoked black fruits, notes of graphite, tobacco, spicy wood, and bouquet garni, a dense, layered mid-palate, building tannins, and a gorgeous overall profile that will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age. It will unquestionably have two decades or more of prime drinking.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon slowly unfurls to reveal evocative scents of warm cassis, blackberry preserves, candied violets, and licorice, followed by hints of mossy tree bark, tar, and cardamom. The full-bodied palate is exquisitely crafted with very fine, grainy tannins and well-knit freshness supporting the tightly wound black fruit and earthy layers, finishing with great length.
