Wine Description
The Cade Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 from Cade Winery Napa Valley is a rich and full-bodied expression of Howell Mountain Cabernet. This wine boasts beautiful aromas of cherry, raspberry, cranberry, and cocoa nibs, along with hints of baked red delicious apples, dark chocolate, and roasted coffee. On the palate, flavors of rhubarb pie, cinnamon, clove, red cherry, and boysenberry unfold, offering a delightful complexity. The 2021 vintage has that classic Howell Mountain structure with great density, elegance, and length, making it a standout in any collection.
This wine is deep dark purple in color, reflecting its intense and spectacular presence in the glass. The texture is velvety, and the finish is long-lasting, leaving behind a satisfying richness on the palate. This Howell Mountain Cabernet is crafted from a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Malbec, 5% Petit Verdot, and 1% Merlot, bringing balance and complexity to the fruit.
The 2021 Cade Estate Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 19 months in 100% French oak barrels, 79% of which were new, lending a subtle cooperage influence to the wine’s final flavor profile. Fermentation occurred with hot fermentation temperatures, producing a concentrated wine that was pressed off at 20°-12° Brix and aged to perfection.
Winemaker Danielle Cyrot skillfully blended this vintage, creating a wine that combines the strength and power of Howell Mountain with remarkable finesse. The 2021 vintage was warm and early, yet it produced wines of great length, bountiful fruit, and elegance, all characteristic of the Cade Estate Cabernet.
The 2021 Cade Howell Mountain Cabernet has received high praise from critics. Wine Advocate awarded it 93 points, noting its full-bodied nature and velvety finish, with hints of pine and sage accenting the ripe black cherries. Jeb Dunnuck also gave it 93 points, praising its ripe blue fruits, violets, and outstanding length. Vinous highlighted the bold, creamy texture, while The Wine Independent awarded it 94 points, describing its blackcurrant jelly flavors and wild blueberries, framed by firm, grainy tannins.
This wine, with an alcohol content of 15.6%, is a testament to the dedication and expertise at Cade Winery.
