Keneth Robinson –
tasted in a PN blind tasting – disappointing, tasted much better at the winery, rather bland and without length
Susan Gonzalez –
I opened this for a summer evening dinner and it was nice immediately with bright cherry and strawberry flavors and some depth and reasonable balance. It went through an awkward phase but three hours later the aggressive acidity faded and it became lush and altogether lovely. So, the lesson is to decant or let this one lay around the cellar a bit.
Barbara Balboa –
Improved on day two.
James Khoury –
This is a hard one to judge. At times the wine opened and showed lovely Burgunian traits and other times felt closed and tart. I did not decand and was unite encouraged when opening the bottle with a nice pungent Pinot aroma. Alas this wine is petulant – coming and going with the food, and each pour. It could very ell be in that ” misbehaving” zone. Defiantly potential for beauty here – but lacking any consistency through the evening. For $60 I would like more focus!
Ron Go –
It is true that the wine settled in the second day. It was more consistent and showed more elegance with a nice finish. I would put the second day score at 91.
Janet Siefkes –
Willamette Valley Producers visit San Francisco (Golden Gate Club in The Presidio, San Francisco, California), : Medium cherry red color; ripe cherry, berry nose; ripe cherry, berry, French oak palate; medium-plus finish
Amos Larson –
Never opened up as I hoped it would. Lacked depth and finish I expected. Perhaps too early to drink.
Alan Baker –
At first pour the nose was stunning with ripe strawberry, cinnamon spice, a dusting of brown sugar and a basket of floral notes. With time earth tones and a floral undergrowth emerged. On the palate it was soft, light bodied and feminine, showing red berries, a hint of spice and herbal tea. On the finish, drying tannin lingered along with ripe strawberry and cedar., This was a pretty and elegant wine, yet the nose raised my expectations, which were then let down by it’s fragile frame on the palate and shorter than expected finish.
Dean Bryan –
Very smooth and silky. Nice acid, cherry, darker cherry cola flavors. Tannins are moderate with nice firm mouthfeel. Finish is long site cola notes all the way through.
Manuel Roberts –
On the toastier side of Pinot, but it seems that they avoided and of the raisininess of the vintage. Works at $24, probably better if was a bit older. Toastier meaning not oak but more of a spice character.
Eleanor Bolger –
Light bouquet of strawberry and sunny earth. Body was light and old world, tempered with faint mineral, cherry with subtle brown spice and wet earth. Finish was long and balanced, big red cherry compote and with a bit of simple wood, maybe cedar or birch. 91/B+ = 50/5/11/9/8/8
Vivian Calderon –
Decant next time.
Palmer Doleman –
Willamette Valley Wines presents: Pinot in the City (City Winery, Chicago, IL), : Nose: There is good balance to the tones of rhubarb, dark red fruits, and plum tones. This is on the more upfront side, but has solid depth as well. , Taste: Medium bodied with medium acidity and sneaky tannins. There is a plushness to the tones of rhubarb, dark red fruits, plums, and some chalk tones. , Overall: This shows some of the fleshier side of the vintage while holding the fruit well. It could use a couple of years to fully round into form, but it isn’t a long distance wine.
James Larson –
Nose: Strawberry. Palate: Blackberry, licorice. Improved acidity and tannins over time.
Emily Shirah –
Delicate cherry and cranberry notes with a hint of tart red fruit. Decanting reveals savory herbs, charcuterie, salami, and morel mushrooms. Nice, but lacks depth.
Catherine Ferdig –
I hour decant.
Reynaldo Oneill –
IPNC Walk-Around tasting; 7/26/2013-7/27/2013 (McMinnville OR), : Tasting. Spice and floral start with ripe berry aromas. Charming and elegant textures, everything in good balance. if slightly firm and tight on very finish. Better in another year.
Patrice Curtis –
2 hour decant.
Georgia Frantz –
– Crimsom color with medium forming legs and aromas of licorice anise and black currant. It’s balanced and has flavours of black currant and dusty with a light/medium body. Fleshy texture with a medium finish – Enjoyed with duck carbonara.
Wanda Garcia –
Casteel Reserve lost its name since 2011 and now has a stronger aroma than Solena Grand Cuvee 2012. It has a red berry flavor with the right amount of concentration and finesse.
Denis Shelton –
Tight at first, but opens up to reveal red currant, sour cherry, earth, cedar, and spice. Excellent length. A great representative of a cool year.
Joe Barber –
Grand cru with potential, but requires aging. Tart and tangy, with a driven character.
Ina Acoff –
Ready and evolved, even from a half bottle.
Harold Gilbert –
Silky textured with baked cherry and raspberry flavors. Needs 1-2 years. Medium finish.
Justin May –
Light Ruby in color. Mineral driven nose, seamless in texture, elegantly styled, nice parade of flavors, all in balance, drinking very well now, even without a decant.
Robin Durk –
Home with Auburn Thai: wine supple & fruity
Tracy Howard –
Wildberry and floral notes on the nose. Medium bodied and very smooth and round with excellent depth and complexity through the middle. Blackberry, wild berry and some red cherry up front, backed with currant and sour cherry and finishing with mint, stone and mineral notes. Very good acidity based backbone, fully in balance with the fruit. This pinot is at or near peak, but based on the fruit and structure, should remain at this plateau for several more years and may improve slightly. Another example of a simply beautiful Oregon pinot noir; an absolute pleasure to drink.
Robert Fountain –
Really dense and well developed.
Jose Studler –
Smooth with great fruit, this wine ranked #5 in the Pinot Smackdown, but I found it better than the crowd. Complex and evolving nose with bright fruit, vanilla cream, spice, and hints of celery. Enjoyed the ride.
Willa Greer –
High-quality Pinot Noir with a tight nose but a seamless and buoyant-textured palate. Less fruit-dominated than previous vintages.
Vonda Hill –
Bethel Heights Vineyard’s Pinot Noir is full of character with spicy flavors, balanced acidity, a long finish, and complexity.
Joseph Richards –
Oregon Pinot at its finest; perfect vintage. Pairs well with Italian cuisine or stands alone. Lively red fruit and delicious finish.
Janet Hamilton –
Review: Syrah-like Pinot with grapey aroma and taste, slight armpit and yeastiness. Soft tannins. Not for those who prefer lighter Pinot styles. Got a deal from “halfwit”.
Kate Evans –
Medium-bodied with wild berry and spice balance. Evolving in the glass. My style.
Mollie Johnson –
“Captivating, must buy more!”
James Rhoads –
Wildberry and earthy notes on the nose. Medium-bodied and well-integrated. Best to drink now, not much to gain from further aging.
Gladys Crawford –
Had with salmon. Nice match. Opened and let air in glasses for an hour. Food made the wine better. Brought out the fruit. Was ready to drink.
Stuart Loeza –
Last bottle was only six months ago and my notes remain consistent. Wildberry, cherry and an earthiness on the nose. Medium bodied and very round and well integrated through the middle, but the acidity on the finish is becoming more noticeable as the fruit fades slightly. Same fruit profile as the prior bottle with wildberry, blackberry and cherry upfront, but now more tart acidity is noticeable behind along with the tart blackberry and cherry. Finish retains nice structure with vanilla, mineral and floral qualities. Still shows quite well, but is lacking just a touch of the density that the prior two bottle had. I think as the fruit softens, the acidity will become more and more prevalent. Possible they might come back into balance, but I’d drink these in the next two years.
Sharon Hampton –
Excellent wine with red fruit aromas, baking spices, and earthy notes. Rich layers and a smooth finish with great depth.
Frances Poole –
Wine is past peak. Lacks character with acidity. Still drinkable but just alcohol.
Nathan Gentry –
Polarizing Pinot Noir – Some loved it, some found it watery.
Edith Smith –
Initial impression of burgundy, grape skin, muscadine, vegetal and Bandaid notes. Light finish with mellow acidity, followed by earthy and fungal tones.
Anita Cole –
Polished Pinot Noir, great texture, weight, and balance.
Stephanie Cruz –
2013 deep colored wine. Fruity, rich, and obvious. Worth $15.
James Zane –
Intense red fruit aroma with a distinct focus, but a slight Band-Aid taste on the palate.
Bertha Williams –
Great Oregon red with red raspberry and currants, earthy and medium-bodied, with silky tannins and nice length. Promising vintage. 92+ to 93pts.
Justin Keil –
Bethel Heights Casteels is awesome, perfect age to drink. CT window suggests 2019 as the last year to drink, but it should hold on for few more years.
Darren Taylor –
Enjoyable wine, best consumed now.
Carol Thomsen –
Brought wine to Gillerson’s Grubery.
Lisa Rose –
Deep colored wine with a dense, resinous nose showing the age of the vines. The palate is nicely balanced with deep fruit flavors. Made from older vines, but not easily identifiable as from Eola Hills.
John Edwards –
Promising Pinot.
Thomas Wood –
Pinot in the City (Chicago, IL): Bright and elegant red cherry with good energy. Good weight. Enjoy in the next few years.
Raul Sholar –
More fruit, less oak apparent. Suave palate, subtle oak and spice.
Brian Truxler –
Emphasizes mushrooms, earth, dried cherry and herbs. Tasted a glass via Coravin, will see how it does later being opened and given more time.
Martha Dixon –
Coravin sample. Earthier end of things. A little light initially on the palate but then adds some weight. Meh
Angie Wilson –
Opened and given air time. Herbs, maple syrup and baking spices. Earth, tart cherry, lean and elegant, crisp finish.
Lori Strom –
Top-notch Pinot Noir with cherry, spice, and rose petals flavors. Balanced, structured, and long-lived with a good depth of flavor. Aged for 15 months in new French oak.
John Barboza –
Outstanding balance and light touch with a gorgeous nose of red fruits and spices. A top Pinot pick.
Mary Giesen –
Impressive 2012 with bright cherry and raspberry notes, low tannins, and graphite. Tartness suggests longevity and complements food. Balanced and will evolve for years.
Vanessa Burns –
Unclear wine, needs time or fruit lost. Need second half to clarify.
Paul Steuer –
Excellent.
Amy Sewell –
Medium-bodied with a pure palate, tannins and acidity merge with a concentrated wine showing the vintage. Nice pinot but not up to the reserve standards of Belle Ponte estate. Still a good A-.
Brian Connors –
Impressive.
Edward Hall –
Tasting Notes: Elegant aroma of plums, fruitcake, tart red cherries, vanilla beans, raspberries, smoke, licorice, crushed rocks, sassafras, and baking spices. Full-bodied with good weight, crisp acidity, and balanced structure. Aging potential of 5-8+ years.
Randy Hopkins –
Balanced black cherry flavor, low tannin, slight graphite. Tastes better than 2010 Pommard Clos de la Commaraine.
Nellie Miller –
Coravined – ABV 13.7%. Floral notes on the nose, clean. Acidity volatile, spicy tannins on mid-palate, warm finish. Barrel spices linger. Approachable, will evolve. Improves over an hour. Deserves an upgrade.
Marilyn Greve –
Delicious wine with complex flavors that evolve throughout the evening. Broad palate of blue and black fruits with a hint of earth.
June Huebner –
Complex tannic wine, past its prime. Enjoyable but with reduced fruit. Drink up.
William Watts –
Great wine.
Joseph Beckwith –
Age this wine for a few more years.
Robert West –
Good wine, subtle fruit.
Ronald Palmieri –
Ideal at present.
Rick Smith –
Great taste, perfect from half bottle.
Charlene Hudson –
Great earthy wine with red fruit flavors of raspberry and cherry, subtle vanilla, and a tangy spice character. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and a long finish. Drink within 3-5 years.
Edward Gonzalez –
“Interesting and mature. Notes of leather and dark fruits with a salty tannic grip. Seriously good Pinot.”
