Crafted by the skilled hands of winemaker Robert Fiore, the Peter Michael Cabernet Sauvignon Au Paradis 2017 is a testament to the exceptional quality of the Oakville AVA in Napa Valley. This exquisite wine, a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Cabernet Franc, showcases the outstanding characteristics of a vintage blessed by the end of California’s long drought and meticulous vineyard practices.

The 2017 vintage began with an abundance of rainfall, rejuvenating the vines and setting the stage for a growing season of superb quality. Despite a slight delay in bud break due to cool spring weather, the season progressed well, with even blooming and a well-balanced crop. Warm conditions post-veraison hastened the ripening process, while the cooler temperatures closer to harvest allowed the grapes to achieve perfect ripeness, picked at the ideal moment between September 20 and 29.

Upon observation, the Peter Michael Cabernet Sauvignon Au Paradis 2017 reveals a near-black ruby color with captivating violet highlights, signaling the depth and intensity of flavors to follow. The nose is rich and complex, brimming with black currant and crame de cassis, complemented by intriguing meaty nuances. Hints of plum brandy, vanilla, allspice, and red rose add layers of aromatic complexity, inviting further exploration.

On the palate, the Peter Michael Au Paradis echoes its aromatic profile with a dominant presence of juicy black currant. Additional layers unfold, revealing fresh leather, black olive, and a backbone of fine-grained tannins. These elements are seamlessly interwoven with an iron-like minerality, enhancing the overall structure and depth. The mouthfeel is both round and refined, culminating in an incredibly long and satisfying finish.

The Peter Michael Winery Au Paradis Cabernet Sauvignon’s elegance and structure are further acknowledged by critical acclaims, receiving a notable 96 points from James Suckling, who praised its juicy fruit, round tannins, and hints of spice, stone, and walnuts. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate awarded it 94 points, highlighting the wine’s deep garnet-purple color, expressive notes of warm cassis, plum preserves, and wild blueberries, with undercurrents of chocolate mint, candied violets, and truffles.

Aged for 18 months in 100% French oak barrels from select artisan coopers and bottled unfined and unfiltered, the Peter Michael Cabernet Sauvignon Au Paradis reflects the winery’s commitment to traditional winemaking methods. With an alcohol content of 14.9%, the Au Paradis Peter Michael is approachable now but will continue to age gracefully for two decades or more. It is an exemplary representation of the Oakville terroir, offering a taste experience that is both profound and memorable.

The Peter Michael Cabernet, particularly the 2017 Au Paradis Peter Michael, stands as a benchmark for California Cabernet Sauvignons, balancing power and elegance with remarkable skill. Every sip of the Peter Michael Cabernet Sauvignon Au Paradis invites the taster into a world where the harmony of fruit, earth, and wood is masterfully achieved. The Peter Michael Winery Au Paradis Cabernet Sauvignon is not just a wine; it’s a journey through the rich tapestry of Napa Valley’s terroir, meticulously captured in a bottle.
