Uccelliera, situated on the southeastern slopes of Castelnuovo del’Abato in southern Montalcino, is renowned for its exquisite red wines crafted from Sangiovese grapes, notably the esteemed Brunello di Montalcino Riserva. Established in 1986 by the skilled winemaker Andrea Cortonesi, the estate has undergone significant expansion, now covering six hectares, predominantly dedicated to vine cultivation. Adhering to the appellation laws, Uccelliera exclusively employs Sangiovese in their Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino wines, meticulously blending grapes from various plots on the property to highlight the diverse terroirs. Additionally, small portions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are skillfully incorporated into the estate’s IGT blends. Notably, Uccelliera also produces a Brunello-designated grappa, showcasing their commitment to quality and innovation in winemaking. Cortonesi’s collaboration with other regional producers under the label Voliero further amplifies the estate’s influence in the realm of Italian winemaking.
