Spottswoode Estate, a historic gem nestled in the heart of Napa Valley, calls St. Helena its home. This storied winery has a rich heritage dating back to 1882 when George Schonewald established it and built the iconic Victorian farmhouse that graces its label.
In 1972, the estate found new stewards in Mary and Jack Novak, marking a turning point in its legacy. It was Mary Novak who, in 1982, released Spottswoode’s inaugural Cabernet Sauvignon, commemorating a century of winegrowing on this hallowed land.
With a commitment to sustainable practices, Spottswoode has been a pioneer in organic farming, cultivating their vineyards organically since 1985 and proudly achieving California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) certification in 1992. Their dedication extends beyond organics, embracing biodynamic principles to nurture their vineyard as a vibrant ecosystem.
Today, Spottswoode’s 42 acres of vineyards predominantly host Cabernet Sauvignon, with additional plantings of Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah. This family-owned estate stands as a testament to the enduring passion and shared vision of its team, preserving a tradition of winemaking excellence that harmonizes with the natural beauty of Napa Valley.
