Lopez de Heredia Description
R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia stands as an iconic Rioja producer, a beacon of traditional winemaking excellence. Established in 1877, its reputation is firmly rooted in its steadfast commitment to time-honored methods. Central to this legacy is the Tondonia vineyard, sprawled across 100 hectares beside the Ebro river, its soil a marriage of alluvial clay and limestone that nourishes the Tempranillo and Garnacha vines.
The acclaimed López de Heredia Gran Reserva, the flagship offering, epitomizes their artistry. Aged for a decade in oak barrels, it showcases the harmonious blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, and Mazuelo. The Reserva, enriched with Graciano, matures for six years. Viña Tondonia’s white wines, the Gran Reserva and Reserva, mirror this process, crafted from Viura and a touch of Malvasia, then aged in oak for years. An intriguing creation is the Gran Reserva Rosado, aged for an unprecedented four and a half years in barrel.
Beyond Tondonia, López de Heredia owns Viñas Cubillo, Bosconia, and Zaconia vineyards, each contributing distinct red and white expressions. The winery’s historic complex in Haro, neighboring La Rioja Alta, is a testament to their unwavering dedication, with wines aging gracefully in storied cellars like El Cemeterio and La Dolorosa. In this fusion of tradition and terroir, R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia continues to shape the legacy of Rioja’s exceptional wines.
