Flowers Wines Description
Flowers Vineyards & Winery
Flowers Vineyards & Winery is located on the far edge of California’s Sonoma Coast, just north of the small coastal town of Jenner. This is not wine country with rolling hills and sunshine all day. This is rugged land, cold winds, thick fog, and views that feel more like the edge of the world. That extreme location is exactly why Flowers exists, because this part of the Sonoma Coast is one of the best places in the United States to grow Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The winery opened in 1989, when Walt and Joan Flowers, who owned a nursery business in Pennsylvania, bought 321 acres of untouched coastal land. At the time, very few people believed great wine could come from such a cold, remote place. Flowers proved them wrong. The first vines were planted in 1991, and over the years the estate slowly grew into one of the most respected names on the Sonoma Coast.
Flowers has two estate vineyards, both very close to the Pacific Ocean. Camp Meeting Ridge is the flagship site, sitting nearly 1,500 feet above sea level and just two miles from the water. It rises above the fog line, which means the vines get sunshine during the day but stay cool all season long. Sea View Ridge is even closer to the ocean and is planted mostly to Pinot Noir. It is wild and broken into many small blocks, each one adding a different voice to the final wines. Together, these vineyards define the Flowers style.
The wines are made by winemaker Chantal Forthun, working closely with an assistant winemaker and a hands-on vineyard team. Farming is organic and biodynamic, with a strong focus on caring for the land. Flowers has followed these practices since the beginning, believing that healthy soils and vines lead to better, more honest wines.
Flowers focuses on two grapes only: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The most famous wine is Moon Select Chardonnay, made from the best estate parcels and fermented with native yeasts in French oak. Other wines include Camp Meeting Ridge Chardonnay, Camp Meeting Ridge Pinot Noir, Sea View Ridge Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast Chardonnay, and Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. Each wine reflects the cold ocean air, bright acidity, and clean, coastal character that defines Flowers. For an online retailer like Famelounge-PS, Flowers Vineyards & Winery represents pure Sonoma Coast wine with a clear sense of place, craftsmanship, and California soul.
