In the picturesque Ribera del Duero winemaking region of Spain, Bodegas Pinea stands as a testament to the perfect harmony between nature’s wisdom and human passion for winemaking. The winery was born from an inspiring conversation between lifelong friends Vicente Pliego and Hugo T. Del Pozzo under the canopy of a majestic Pinea tree. They were deeply moved by the idea of utilizing the exceptional characteristics of the land to craft one of the finest wines in the world.
At Bodegas Pinea, a profound reverence for nature is at the core of their winemaking philosophy. The vineyard’s meticulous care and adherence to centuries-old traditions ensure that every step of the winemaking process is a tribute to the land’s bounty. Only at nature’s perfect timing, the grapes are carefully handpicked and placed in small baskets to avoid any harm before being gently destemmed by hand. This non-interventionist approach allows the fruit to shine, embodying the pure essence of simplicity, elegance, and heritage.
The vineyards at Bodegas Pinea are situated near Olmedillo de Roa and Villatuelda in the heart of Ribera del Duero, elevated at an average altitude of 3,050 feet above sea level. The vineyards benefit from an ideal confluence of factors: demanding soil, challenging weather conditions, and a nearly 360-degree exposure to the elements. Planted in chalky sand with a significant presence of limestone, the vines boast robust rooting systems that enable them to thrive without artificial irrigation. As a result, the fruit endures seasonal extremes, experiencing cold snowy winters and hot summer days, all while enduring the stress of temperature fluctuations from day to night.
The founders’ aspiration to create one of the world’s best wines is underpinned by a clear objective—to awaken the senses and nourish the soul of all who experience Bodegas Pinea wines. To achieve this lofty goal, they have enlisted a team of passionate winemaking artisans, led by the esteemed master oenologist Isaac Fernandez, widely regarded as Spain’s finest winemaker.
