Bodegas Juan Gil

Located in the heart of Spain’s Jumilla region, Bodegas Juan Gil has been a prominent player in the world of winemaking since its inception. Established several decades ago, this winery has harnessed the unique terroir of Jumilla to craft a diverse range of red wines primarily from the Monastrell grape variety, synonymous with this part of Spain.

Jumilla’s scorching, arid climate and the arid limestone soils in Juan Gil’s vineyards provide the ideal conditions for Monastrell, a grape variety that has been the cornerstone of the region’s robust red wines for generations. Some of their vines are nearly four decades old, imparting a level of complexity only found in wines derived from mature vines.

While Monastrell dominates their vineyards, you can also find Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, occasionally lending their unique characteristics as minor blending partners.

Juan Gil’s portfolio encompasses a variety of wines, with the 4 Meses, 12 Meses, and 18 Meses wines taking center stage, each named for the months they spend aging in oak barrels. In addition, they produce a refreshing white wine from Moscatel and an array of other Monastrell-driven wines.

Beyond their Jumilla estate, the Gil family extends their winemaking prowess to Bodegas El Nido, a celebrated estate in partnership with Australian winemaker Chris Ringland. The family’s dedication to wine extends across Spain, with ownership of other notable brands like Bodegas Tridente in Castilla y León’s Tierra del Vino de Zamora and Lagar de Condesa in Galicia’s Rias Baixas. Bodegas Juan Gil stands as a testament to their commitment to producing exceptional wines across diverse regions in Spain.
